I received a part from a colleague that has many components and I need one specific component for my own project. How do I make components of a part into individual, separate parts? Thank you.
This looks like it uses an older version of solidworks, but it should point you in the right direction.
When I hover over the component, it shows up as "Feature (name of part)"
It really depends on if you are dealing with a single body part, a multi body part, or an assembly.
If you post a screenshot of the part with the feature tree visible, I'm sure we'd have a few good ideas.
If you can't post a photo because it is super top secret, then I'll suggest using the Split tool. It will slice the part into multiple bodies. There is a good example in the SolidWorks help, see Split and Save Bodies
It is top secret and it is a model of an airplane in a part; so I don't know if it would be a single or multibody part
Are the components separate bodies? Try right-clicking the body in the feature tree and find a useful command called Insert into New Part… A new part will be generated containing just that body (not the generating features).
Depends on your part type
If you have a surface part, you can convert the part you want to save to solid part using (Knit surface) and save it in external file
