how do i open a file in autodesk inventor 2013 from a file i downloaded from grabcad for inventor 2013?

double click the file

Does it say ERROR OPENING RSE STREAM?
If so, it is actually a newer version. If not, it should just open...

What file? Maybe I can test it for you.
