how to convert an stl file to solid using spaceclaim?

What I did was select-> paint-> select all -> right click -> convert to solid -> merge faces. So does it convert only the surface to solid or fill the hollow part with solid too?

Mesh tab: Convert geometry to facets, then check Mesh, next Autofix will provide you a printable model (if that's what you are looking for).

There are two choices when using the "convert to solid" command in SpaceClaim.
One is the "merge faces" and the other is "do not merge faces". (at least at SpaceClaim 2017.2 version). "Merge faces" makes all surfaces united. For example when you use pull command a surface it extrudes/cuts all the surfaces parallel to you touch(although you see the face boundries). If you choose "do not merge faces" all the surfaces become independent and when you treat something to any surface, it affects only that surface.
Lets look at the jpg files i attached. The 1 is merged and 2 is not merged. It can be seen by the more specifial surface boundries at 2.
When you pull the 1 as the arrow direction it looks like 11 and when you pull it at opposite direction it becomes like at 111.
When you pull the 2 as the arrow direction it looks like 22 and when you pull it at opposite direction it becomes like at 222. As you see the other surfaces are kept because they are independent surfaces than you treated once.
