How to open assembly in Inventor

By Ryley Dreger on 15 Nov 02:47 1 answer 1 comment

How can I open an assembly downloaded from GrabCad in Autodesk Inventor? I have no problems downloading and opening part files, but when I try and open an assembly file the program can not locate the part files.

    Hi Ryley

You are actually answering the question...
If you attempt to download an assembly file without any other related parts then it is more likely that Inventor as any other CAD system will not open successfully this assembly file...

My advise is that in case that there is a native (Inventor) assembly file but somehow the user missed to upload the related parts just ignore it and try the next best thing...

...First download the .igs or .stp format of the assembly file
...On this way you'll make sure that Inventor will open this part-like file format...
...While saving this in Inventor the software will create an assembly containing all the rest of the components as part files...

If you found useful this answer...
Please let the rest ones know by pressing "it worked"

    Best Regards
