i always use solidworks as an example of what im trying to accomplish in nx9,, i projected a curve onto a cylindrical face and now im trying to extrude it but its coming out like a sheet put it says its a solid,, in sw its real easy project curve ,, 3d sketch convert curve,,extrude done i hope this is clear

Yes, you are correct. But after extruding the projected curve you have to give thicken to the extruded curve, inorder to go to that command insert:- Offset/Scale:- Thicken.
