Tips/Help for bird assembly model
Hi,
I am looking to design/model and print out the bird in the images.
1. What do you think is a good way to achieve the mechanism such the head can moves back(beak open position) with some minimal force and goes back to closed position upon release? I am trying to realize the idea without the use of springs or additional element. I am thinking of counterweight principle.
2. What is the best practice for realizing this is Solidworks?

tip #1: the center of gravity of the head part must be in front of the pivot for the head to close. vary the size/shape of the lower portion of the head to position the CG.
tip #2: try to minimize the friction between the head pivot and the pivot holder in the body. My first thought was to make them round (like a pin in a slot), but I'm worried about the surface finish with 3D printing. Better solution might be to use a "knife edge" instead of a round pin?
