I think for Step 12 he means 21mm instead of 11mm. 11 seems WAY too small for it. Just wanted to add that there. Awesome work here by the way! Been following it from the beginning and I'm completely new to this! I'm using Inventor to do mine and while its a little different I'm still able to keep up! Thanks soo much!
I noticed when you made this, you only made room for 2 rings on the piston. What about the oil ring? there should be 3 grooves made in the side of the piston. 2 for the regular rings and 1 for the oil ring. Just a little bit bigger than the grooves for the original two grooves you cut for the rings. Just thought I'd add that for a TAD bit more realism. :) Thank for this tutorial!
In odreder to create dome on top the piston in Inventor , create work plane in front view in the middle of piston draw sketch of triangle 5mm vertical 45 mm horizontal connect to ends and maneuver that filet portion up so you don't end up and revolve 360 degree and you should be all set .
I agree with the dimensions thing. Please fully constrain your skethes. I makes following the tutorial a bit hard without all the needed dimensions.
In step 7, why not extrude up to surface and avoid any problems a blind extrude might give, if you make any design changes?
The dome tool is a redundant tool and why it is not included in other programs. To create the dome in CATIA, start by open a side profile sketch. Create a "three point arc Starting with limits" and have the limits at the edge of the piston and 5mm above the piston at the central axis. The third point should snap when it creates an arc that touches the other side of the piston. Then exit workbench and use the shaft tool. Hope that helps
