Split Face command, how it works?

Don't use Solid Edge, but here is how it works in SolidWorks. May be similar enough to help.

1. Step 1:

   Part to be split
   

   

2. Step 2:

   Create sketch line for split. Line must fully cross faces to be split
   

   

3. Step 3:

   Exit Sketch
   

   

4. Step 4:

   Select Split Line command and select line
   

   

5. Step 5:

   Select faces to split
   

   

6. Step 6:

   Click OK and selected faces are split.
