Tutorial - Modeling Crank Shaft in SolidWorks?

This is tutorial on making crank shaft. The main problem with making such design is with reading the dimensions on the drawing sheet. Well i have solved it for you. In this tutorial we will go through simple extrusion operation to make crank shaft.

  1. Step 1:

    Right Plane>>Sketch.

  2. Step 2:

    Draw a circle of 120mm and 4 holes of 12mm at 42.5mm from origin.

  3. Step 3:

    Extrude it by 16mm.

  4. Step 4:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  5. Step 5:

    Draw a circle of 50mm dia.

  6. Step 6:

    Extrude it by 40mm.

  7. Step 7:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  8. Step 8:

    Draw this profile.

  9. Step 9:

    Extrude it by 22mm.

  10. Step 10:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  11. Step 11:

    Draw a circle of45mm at 40mm from origin.

  12. Step 12:

    Extrude it by 35mm.

  13. Step 13:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  14. Step 14:

    Draw this profile.

  15. Step 15:

    Extrude it by 25mm.

  16. Step 16:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  17. Step 17:

    Draw a circle of 45mm dia.

  18. Step 18:

    Extrude it by 35mm.

  19. Step 19:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  20. Step 20:

    Draw this profile.

  21. Step 21:

    Extrude it by 22mm.

  22. Step 22:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  23. Step 23:

    Draw a circle of 45mm.

  24. Step 24:

    Extrude it by 45mm.

  25. Step 25:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  26. Step 26:

    Select this face and click Convert entities since the profile is same.

  27. Step 27:

    Extrude it by 22mm.

  28. Step 28:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  29. Step 29:

    Convert the circular edge.

  30. Step 30:

    Extrude it by 35mm.

  31. Step 31:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  32. Step 32:

    Convert this face since the profile is same.

  33. Step 33:

    Extrude it by 25mm.

  34. Step 34:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  35. Step 35:

    Convert the cirular edge from 4th extrusion.

  36. Step 36:

    Extrude it by 35mm.

  37. Step 37:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  38. Step 38:

    Select the 3rd extrusion face and convert entities.

  39. Step 39:

    Extrude it by 22mm.

  40. Step 40:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  41. Step 41:

    Draw a circle of 45mm dia.

  42. Step 42:

    Extrude it by 145mm.

  43. Step 43:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  44. Step 44:

    Draw a rectangle of this dimension with one point coincident on the circular edge at a distance of 4.5mm.

  45. Step 45:

    Extrude cut it by 100mm.

  46. Step 46:

    Right face>>Sketch.

  47. Step 47:

    Draw a circle of 28mm.

  48. Step 48:

    Extrude it by 28mm.

  49. Step 49:

    We have the crank shaft.
