3D Modeling, Rendering, and Design using SolidWorks

I’m a design engineer specializing in the retail display industry. I help Point-of-Purchase display companies save money and meet deadlines. I do this with great design and communication. I take a different approach to engineering that focuses on detail. I create exploded views to show how parts go together. I render the display to show exactly what the prototype will look like. I make detailed drawings so your manufacturers know exactly what needs made. I build instruction sheets so everyone knows how to put the display together. My goal is clarity. I’ve worked for sheet metal manufacturers, cabinet makers, and point-of-purchase display companies since 2006. I understand how these different companies communicate design because I’ve worked for them. In short, I speak their language. I started my career as an engineer at the age of 16. I went to a vocational school for Computer Assisted Drafting. This is where I had my career “Ah-ha!” moment, when I realized how much I loved the creative engineering process. I love problem solving. I love 3D modeling. I love communicating my idea on paper. At the age of 18, I got my first job as an entry level CAD Technician for a sheet metal fabricator specializing in the retail industry. While working there, not only did I learn all about sheet metal, but I also learned a lot about how the retail industry works. I came to understand the fast pace, and how a manufacturer survives in this kind of environment. A few years later, I began working for a few design houses that specialized in the retail industry as one of their design engineers. My favorite thing about working for these companies was the limitless possibilities that not manufacturing in house offered me as a design engineer. With no specialty in materials, I could have a display made out of a combination of multiple manufacturing processes, such as vacuum forming and injection molding. This is where I learned a lot about these processes. While working for this company I got the pleasure of doing work for major brands like Fisher Price, LG, and Western Digital. This past year, my wife and I had our Son. After my son was born, I began to think about my future. I was very uncomfortable with all of the things I was missing with my son and wife while I was away at work. After much contemplation, I turned in my notice and took the dive into freelancing and haven’t looked back since.

Workstation specs: HP Omen laptop. Why? Because it had decent good video card, a solid-state drive, and was half the price of an XPS. That basically sums up the research I did.
Honors and awards:
Interests: Beer, 3D printing, spending time with my family.
