Show off your skills and solve real design problems

There is a growing market for health drinks that are mixed immediately before you drink it. For this Challenge, propose a simple hand-operated mechanism to deposit any variety of dry 'drink mix' into the water before the consumer has even opened the bottle.
Ease of use, simplicity of design and efficient deposition of mix are important. One problem we've noticed is that not all of the mix is dropped into the drink. Think of ways your design overcomes this problem. Aesthetic elements that convey the importance of health and vitality are important.
The entire design will be made from injection moulded plastic. Your solution should be fairly easy to assemble with preferably zero metal parts (springs, hinges, etc). And your solution should be easy to operate, so that even a little kid or a grandmother could dispense the ingredients and get a refreshing drink!
Before developing your entry, please have a look at the existing solutions:

The cap should be made of plastic without any metal parts.
The cap should be easily manufacturable with injection moulded technologies.
The cap should be easy to use by hands.
The cap should have simple design, aesthetics should convey health and vitality.
Efficient deposition of mix is important.
The cap should be easy to assemble.
Only private entries are accepted in the challenge. Send an e-mail to info@grabcad.com and request for an access to upload private models. Uploaded models must be shared with kaspar@grabcad.com, gabe@grabcad.com and yd8696@gmail.com

Question, is the container presured, with soda or not ?!.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Also, is there a particular bottle this will be used for? Diameter of cap and threads or other attachment to the bottle.
Robert de Roode about 13 years ago
Deleted my last post on this, But!!!... first a beer ;)... and a night rest.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
I would like a little more info as there are a few different ways to go about this. is there a specific product in mind or is supposed to be generalized, Like the different types of powder may act differently inside of the cap, also, is it going into plain water or carbonated water... will it become carbonated? Could we make just the cap that would have the different flavors and then you just add them to your favorite bottled water? is there something about the existing solutions that in not liked and why a new solution is being looked for?
Azrael about 13 years ago
I have several question about this challenge:
1. what is the size of the bottle / bottle neck which this cap will be used for?
2. Will this cap be used for particular bottle or bottle that we can buy from the market? if it need to be fit with bottle in the market, is there any range of product we need to consider with?
3. what type of mix "solvent" will be used? solid or liquid?
Michele Gorra about 13 years ago
4. amount of product that the cap must contain?
SLMO about 13 years ago
important questions, please Grab Cad we want the answers
Coolwin about 13 years ago
most important question is that "what's the containing?"
Ravichandra J P about 13 years ago
Regarding the specifications of bottle, is it fine to use the specifications of LED challenge?
Drazen about 13 years ago
I had a bunch of Q's but reading all of this I can say that they are pretty much the same. We need more info...

if anyone else has a question, please do ask in the next few hours as i will be unavailable for 48hours.
YD about 13 years ago
in general, most of the questions everyone is asking is very specific and i just want to let you know that we have no specification other than making a unique and creative dispensing mechanism, if your entry is awarded we will then move on to stage two of specific development together.
Ármin Fendrik about 13 years ago
Does it have to work like that vicap, so you can drink trough it, or just an usual cap?
YD about 13 years ago
Comed- it can work either way..
Julius Siador about 13 years ago
YD, don't worry, perhaps, like me, everybody is conceptualizing already. And it takes time to 3D, though.
Michele Gorra about 13 years ago
I just finished watching the examples, this problem seems to have been already solved many times.
Would be useful, in my opinion, to know which aspect should be prioritized, such as the complete descent of the mix, the non-contamination of the product ahead of time, the storage facilities, the tightness of the cap at higher pressures.
just my opinion, thank you
Neil Reed about 13 years ago
I am not sure I like the new rules they are adding...
When I read this third item it is saying (to me) that I should do a patent search in order to cover myself. I mean it doesn't have the "To the best of your knowledge" statement in it.......
By entering this competition, you
1. Warrant that the work is your original work.
2. To the best of your knowledge, it is not, and has not been in production or otherwise previously published or exhibited.
3. Neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trade mark, copyright or any other intellectual property right) of any other person.
YD about 13 years ago
ergosysmed- the problem has been solved in many ways but their are still many other unexplored dispensing opportunities which is the point of this exploration.
all those items are priorties, but i would say the top one is seperation between the liquid in the bottle and the ingredients in the dispenser which will be fully dispensed and stored safely without touching or coming into contact with the liquid
YD about 13 years ago
Neil Reed- you are not required to do a patent search, we provided you with a list of existing dispensing technologies so you are aware of what is out in the public arena already. After reviewing what we listed as examples then use the best of your knowledge to come up with your own original concept
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
after the challenge, if an entry does not win, are we free to make the entry public?
Michele Gorra about 13 years ago
YD, thank you for your kind answers
Hooman Zoka about 13 years ago
can we use Aluminum foil in us model?
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
@Stephen, all the entries must stay private.
YD about 13 years ago
Rostam,
yes, you can use foil for the model
Hooman Zoka about 13 years ago
How long does it take to answer our request for "access to upload private models"?
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
Everybody, please make sure you always share access to kaspar@grabcad.com, gabe@grabcad.com and yd8696@gmail.com as per instructions. All the publicly uploaded models will be disqualified.
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
@Rostam, you have the access now.
Hooman Zoka about 13 years ago
Kaspar Kiis & YD,thank you so much.
Robert de Roode about 13 years ago
Hey!.. i got an idea on how to get this working.. (i guess).. Do i need to make a precise model, or proximate and "functional" design is also ok ?
Robert Harnack about 13 years ago
can my design have a plastic hinge?
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
How refined should the designs be? Does it just need to get the idea across? My idea could be manufactured a few different ways and I am not sure which way I should model it.
YD about 13 years ago
Robert de Roode, submit a proximate and functional design and we will evaluate.. our preference is a precise model
YD about 13 years ago
Robert Harnack, yes you can have a plastic hinge if it is easy to assemble and easily manufacturer able.
YD about 13 years ago
Stephen Nyberg,
you can submit a few different draft concepts and then i will provide comments to direct you which one would be best to refine further
Robert de Roode about 13 years ago
@Dave Feathers: quote: "Seems to be mostly students in this labor pool." - As communication specialist you should know that: "Assumptions are the mother of all fuckups". @YD: Thanks for your response, i will submit my idea soon.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Could we make it where the dispenser is in the bottom of the bottled and not in the cap?
YD about 13 years ago
yes you can integrate the dispenser into the bottom, just please be sure to always think ease of manufacture.. because typically speaking bottles are made separately then caps.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
I just noticed the "all other entries receive $50" does 5th and 6th place get $50. I know some see the GrabCAD t-shirt as priceless but if we already have one, I think $50 would be nicer then a second shirt. and is there a limit to $50 prize? We are already at more then $700 for the non-winners of this challenge! Not that I am complaining, just want to fully understand.
YD about 13 years ago
5th and 6th place will recieve a t shirt and $50! we will fix the challenge page shortly.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Can we get a guideline on the volume of water and the volume of mix should be?
YD about 13 years ago
there is no guideline for this aspect...
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Thanks YD, I just wanted to make sure my mix reservoir was large enough.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Should we do any of the mold design? Are there any types we should/should not use, or is the goal just to keep it cheap?
YD about 13 years ago
if you are proficient in mold design we would love that and greatly welcome it.
keep it as simple, efficient and easy to manufacture as possible.. if that equates to cheap then fantastic!
Simonr about 13 years ago
Can you grant me access to upload an entry for this?
Robert Harnack about 13 years ago
Does this have to be a fully working design or can we submit concepts?
YD about 13 years ago
Robert, we need concepts that work, therefore fully working designs
YD about 13 years ago
Simonr, email kaspar@grabcad.com for access
Simonr about 13 years ago

Julius Siador about 13 years ago

Jake about 13 years ago
$3,000 for a product that could make a company millions?
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
Yes @Julius you should have access. I would be happy to help anyone else, as well. You can email info@grabcad.com or sara@grabcad.com.
Danny Tasmakis about 13 years ago
Look at it this way Jake, work on it for 30 hours and your on $100 dollars per hour or invest a few hundred thousand dollars start a company and develop, produce and market the cap yourself, most of us would probably take the first option be done with it and move on to the next project :)
Simonr about 13 years ago
That, after all is the nature of most design work! Seems pretty fair to me & $3k is a pretty good rate for a design job.
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
How will the guaranteed $50 will be payed?
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
@simonr, $3k is nothing for a good design like this.. should be at least $10.000....
Simonr about 13 years ago
@Robin, I guess that's one less entry in competition with mine ;-) It says somewhere that the $50 will be paid by PayPal.
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
@Simonr, You're not going to post anything?
Simonr about 13 years ago
I meant your entry! $3k not being enough for you. I have already submitted mine.
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
Oh haha, no i will submit anyway. I'm not planning on getting my ideas on the market ;)
Jake about 13 years ago
You'd be better off going on the Shark Tank show and giving them 50% of the idea if not more. That way you get money from the sales of it. Betting that you could go to the listed links and propose your idea to them and get a good pay out. (Personal opinion)
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
Well, you can either participate and get 50 bucks, or don't submit anything and they get their idea from someone else.. $50 it is then aye ;)
Jake about 13 years ago
i didn't see that part of the rules, $50 it is!
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
Hahahaha :)
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
I can only upload as public! :/
YD about 13 years ago
Robin, read the directions above to submit the private submission
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago

I just came across another existing solution people may want to take a look at:
http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/06/22/one-keepable-cap-lots-less-bottles/
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
can we add other "collaborators" to our projects other then YD, Kaspar and Gabe? I was hoping to get some feedback to help improve my design before the final submission.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
With the $50 prize for all other entries, are the designs still ours, and are we able to make our models public after the challenge?
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Stephen, from this I would say you could add collaborators, "Team entries are welcome. In case of team win, prize money will be transferred to team leader who is solely responsible for splitting it among team members." You must keep your entries private.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
Thanks Sara,
So is there anyone here who would like access to my model to give me some constructive criticism without trying to steel my design or my winnings. ;) ;)
Alexei Kositsin about 13 years ago
Hey folks, funny, it looks like you want to know everything about this challenge thats not in rules. You closing all chanses for your imagination. Rules are simple so follow them and dont search for new ones.
Why do you need to know about bottle size?
Just make it for one size and then if you need scale it up or down.
Second thing is that it's a design challenge, not manufacturing.
More important how good and simple your design is and not what colour your label on the box of your bottle will be.
Good luck to you all!
To us i mean )))
Alexei.

Does the company that YD is representing gain all the rights to all of the entries? If my entry does not win, is it still mine to do with what I want?
Kira about 13 years ago
Stephen: This is just my thought. I think the $50 is how much their paying for the rights to those submissions who did not make the top 4.
From what I read, I think you cease the right to your designs the moment you enter any contest held by GrabCAD.
Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Stephen All entries are treated the same way - they must remain private even after the contest is over and become the IP of those running the challenge.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
After the this challenge is over, can we post flattened file formats or renders publicly on GrabCAD to show other what we created without violating the companies ownership?
Kira about 13 years ago
I have a question. Will my model, being exported from a student version of Solidworks, be accepted for this challenge? And will having only access to the student version of solidworks be affected in any ways the judging process compared to those with the professional licensed?
I ask because the student license agreement restricts users to profit from the free version (i.e. the student edition). Will the companies of these challenges take this into consideration when they judging our entries?
Hooman Zoka about 13 years ago

Dwi Prabowo about 13 years ago
Dear YD, I am still waiting for access to upload by private models. I've already email info@grabcad.com. Hope still have chance to upload.
teigan about 13 years ago
while we fully understand your reasons for privacy, it is rather misguided to not let those who participated in the challenge, see the other entries at the end. after investing our time and thoughts, we deserve to see what won out and why.
Simonr about 13 years ago
@teigan, The sponsor will likely want to patent the design. Under patent rules, the design must not be public and can only be shown to trusted 3rd parties. The trouble is, none of us are trusted 3rd parties! For all they know, we could be stooges for one of their competitors!
Having said that, once IPR protection is in place, it would be nice to see the final design and read why it was chosen. Alternatively, they could send the unsuccessful entries a brief explanation of why theirs was not chosen. However with 60 entries at the moment and likely more to come, this would be a lot of work.
I've worked on a number of competitive design tenders - and often you only hear whether you've won or not. The decision is often quite subjective and the client doesn't want to be drawn in to an argument over their decision.
I'm happy with whatever they choose to reveal - even if that's nothing!
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
@ Simonr, Thanks as that put everything in a better perspective for me. I was a little upset that I would not get to share my design with everyone. I still think that it is a little crazy that they are paying $50 to every entry to own them all (even the junk) but now I understand a little better.
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
Thanks @Simonr, well said. Best of luck to all the submissions and those yet to come.

thank you Comed.but i am an iranian Citizen & iran not exist in the list on this site. :-(
now how you pay the money to ?
teigan about 13 years ago
realistically, because, we as participants are not making patent searching a priority, a majority of the entries no matter how impressive, won't be patentable. so i would suggest grabcad show the rejected entries to all the participants. at least that way, we get to see some of what other people designed.
Alexei Kositsin about 13 years ago
teigan: I agree!!!
Ármin Fendrik about 13 years ago
teigan: actually there can be an idea behind the rejected works, what can impress some competitors of the company, so it would mean, that they paid for the invention of someone else. I completely agree (and understand) with their policy of keeping everything secret.
Drazen about 13 years ago
Can I upload a private video (it can be seen only by persons that have the link) on youtube and attach the link when uploading the model?
And since I haven't uploaded any private models, after I upload step file can I add some more files (cad files, drawing etc.)?
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Drazen Make any changes and add files WITHIN the private project you created when you submitted your entry. You should be able to make edits, upload files, and videos the same way as you can in a public project.
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
Have you added collaborators to your private entry??? Contact me at sara@grabcad.com if you haven't added kaspar@grabcad.com, gabe@grabcad.com and yd8696@gmail.com in the sidebar!

i too have a concept which is difficult to communicate without video. can we upload one as a file, and if so, what format do you prefer? because your upload interface asks us to use vimeo(which is public).
YD about 13 years ago
please do not upload with youtube or vimeo
Dwi Prabowo about 13 years ago
Dear YD, how to share with kaspar@grabcad.com, gabe@grabcad.com and yd8696@gmail.com. Is it by email or what?
Drazen about 13 years ago

With so many entries I am sure there are a few entries that are not worth $50...even if it keep ideas from the competition. Is every entry really going to get cash?
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
if the main files are in our private entry, can we continue to upload additional renderings and video after the deadline?
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Stephen all valid entries will receive $50. They appreciate all of your hard work! This is not per engineer but per entry.
teigan about 13 years ago
my napkin sketch of a miracle occuring was already rejected as an entry. that's okay. i'm sure the USA will give me taxpayer funding for it.
Julius Siador about 13 years ago
Sara, how do we know if our entries are included among those 132 entries?
Robin Diekmann about 13 years ago
Hey, my entry is gone... ?? Why is this? I cant find it on my profile either..
DWP about 13 years ago
1. I have a couple of renderings to show, different colours and some cosmetic changes, but based on the principle presented in the description and the drawings of my entry. No major changes. Do I have to wait for the results to upload them ?
2. twelve hours ago, when I uploaded my entry, the count was 132; I know about some delay, happened before, but it still shows 132; in my profile the project is listed as private.
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Julius if you submitted through the "Submit Entry" button for this challenge you should be okay. You can check by going to your "Private Projects" in the menu bar if you hover over your picture, by the search bar. @Robin I will double check on your entry.
Jonatan Welander about 13 years ago

MUSTAFA TOUIL about 13 years ago
ooh .. 146 entries, they were 132 after deadline.
Stephen Nyberg about 13 years ago
It looks like the opened it back up for a few more hours today. Not including the shirts, that is more than $13,500 in prize money I think!
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago
@Suraj.mal you do not need to email to files to anyone. @Mustafa and @Stephen, we didn't extend the deadline we were just making sure we captured all of the entries and it took a little workaround in the system. But yes, 146! What a great turn out for this challenge!
MUSTAFA TOUIL about 13 years ago
Sara .... I re-Ask @Stephen's question, is it allowed for us to continue uploading additional renderings and videos?
Sara Sigel about 13 years ago

Drazen about 13 years ago
Ok ok...calm down :)
I understand. I'm just saying that I think it should be visible when my colaborators download my models, leave a comment etc.
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
Just to let you know that the jury is working on the results and will announce them latest by the end of this month but still asap. Thank you.
Drazen about 13 years ago
Thanks for the info. It's nice to know that jury is working :)
Robert Harnack about 13 years ago
when will the $50 be sent out?
Simonr almost 13 years ago
@Robert -Are you not expecting to win then?
I would imagine they will send the $50 when they decide who has won!
Drazen almost 13 years ago
I expect to win! :)
Absolutely. They will determine the winners and then decide who is eligible to receive $50 because there are probably some sketches or even models that are not even functional, just some plain drafts...
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Not so fast Drazen, I am planning on taking this one home ;)
Drazen almost 13 years ago
I am perfectly happy with the 2nd place :)
Winner buys beer?
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Beers sound good! :D
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
Hi, any news on progress?
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
@Alexei you can expect results by the end of the month or sooner. Stay tuned!
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Seeing some activity...
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
I want to know!!
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
Everybody :)
xenofon almost 13 years ago
any news on the selection process?
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
I am preaty sure I won because mine is by far the best entry I have seen :)
Simonr almost 13 years ago
@stephen - And the only one you've seen! (hopefully!) ;-)
Branko Stokuca almost 13 years ago
Why aren't they showing the models?
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
:D it is private so only gabe, kaspar, and YD will get to see all the entries. I'm not even sure what they will be able to tell us about the winners.
Drazen almost 13 years ago
Stephen, obviously I am the winner so everything you want to know about me you can find on my profile page and as for the model - I'll send you some shots so you can be sure that you lost from the best :)))
But don't worry, I'll stick to our agreement and beer is on me :)
Branko Stokuca almost 13 years ago
I realize that the challenge is private. But the challenge is over so we could see the designs :)
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
@Branko entries are private to help protect what will be the IP of the Challenge Sponsor. Even after the Challenge ends, they will want to keep their newly acquired solutions private. Please refrain from sharing your entries as you would be responsible for sharing someone else's IP. I understand that it is tough because you want to see the great work everyone did, but it is the nature of private Challenges. Send me a private message if you have any questions.
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
If you look at the comment at the beginning if this challenge you will see that all of the entries will remain private and thus all entries getting paid
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Too bad we can't see the winning idea then.
Julius Siador almost 13 years ago
Can they apply for patents on the winning entries then show us those designs, Sara? It's first to patent who would be granted in the USA anyway, and international patent can proceed immediately.
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
That will be super cool to walk into a store and say "i deadignedthat."
Ármin Fendrik almost 13 years ago
Julius: If they patent any solution, you will be able to view it, so I think they will not only patent the winners, but a few other solutions too (probably the best ones). So it makes no sense to make the models public here too.
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
I'd be more than happy to pay some money for my bottle!
Kira almost 13 years ago
I am certain I will 'win' $50!
Julius Siador almost 13 years ago
$150 for me :)
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
Good luck to everyone, I'm excited to see the results!
xenofon almost 13 years ago
when will they be announced? and where? (i suposse on this page right?)
Kaspar Kiis almost 13 years ago
Yes, winners will be announced on this page, shortly.
Julius Siador almost 13 years ago
Hi Kaspar and Sara. How come the stl files which have pins became way too small when shown in viewer? This seems detrimental to some entries as we placed pins in the viewer to make comments, notes, descriptions, clarifications, etc.
Also, one of my entry which I know is the best of the three has no download in it. I think the judges cannot view it.
Simonr almost 13 years ago
STL files are made by splitting the model in to lots of little triangular pyramids. In the options for most STL Exporters, you can set what is the minimum size pyramid it will bother with - or in efect, the resolution of the model.
If you have features which are smaller than this resolution, they will not be represented!
STL's were intended for 3D Printing / RP. If you set the resolution slightly higher than the resolution of your printer, it minimises the file size while not affecting the print quality. Very often it also increases the print speed.
It's just a case of setting it appropriately to the task!
MUSTAFA TOUIL almost 13 years ago
Any news? :)
WatchMeDesign almost 13 years ago
End of the month and still no results?
teigan almost 13 years ago
could be worse. as when waiting for your period.
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
What about now?! it's really end! ))
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
I know! I am dying with anticipation. Kaspar said by the end of the month but at the beggining of the challenge they said 6 weeks so I think that puts it out to the 7th. We may get luck and wake up to the results!
Jose Carlos Mendez almost 13 years ago
:O!!!!
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
YD, GABE, SARA, please tell us something!!!
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
I saw something at the start that said six weeks So that gives themmtill the 7th
Drazen almost 13 years ago
As yoda would say: Challenge this to win, patience you must have :))
teigan almost 13 years ago
when for yoda to speak the time comes, open yet another fortune cookie the screenwriters must.
Drazen almost 13 years ago
Wise you are speaking my young Padawan :D
teigan almost 13 years ago
i have a bad feeling about this
Hevi almost 13 years ago
teigan: what u r trying to say? the death star is running? yoda will be "pissed off" ;] (sry for these words;)
teigan almost 13 years ago
i'm saying the death star gravity should face in toward the center of the sphere, and not along the rotational axis, as built. even if their unrealistic interpretation were scientifically possible, the toilets wouldn't flush properly.
Hevi almost 13 years ago
ok so u r saying that we should start a new challenge at GB - "DeatStar toilets - flush system" ;] ...good idea? 1st/2nd/3rd prize?
teigan almost 13 years ago
it's a p-trap! unfortunately the prize is a 3D print of your design, a perpetual license to jarjar.com, and a grabcad tee shirt. may the coriolis force be with you.
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Sara told me end of the month.. :(
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
In the "about the jury" section above they said six weeks after the end of the challenge That gives them untill friday
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
i can't wait.
Igor B almost 13 years ago
Yup, the challenge ended on October 26th if I remember rememer correctly. I guess they did not expected so much entries. Anyway I hope they will sort this trough before the holidavzc
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
With $50 guarantee they could've expected this manyh entries..
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
I know how you feel Robin!
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
You guys are being very patient. Thank you for hanging in there with us. So many amazing entries! We are working with the sponsors to get results to you as soon as possible.
Asitha Lunuwaththa almost 13 years ago
yh. sara is correct we should be patient
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Thanks for the update sara
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Final day!
Igor B almost 13 years ago
Now the extension.
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
I sure hope there is no extension! This has been a long and slow six weeks!
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
Results are going up today. No extension :) Good luck to everyone!
Kira almost 13 years ago
I welcome you $50! :D
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Yes i hope i have $50, although i'd like a T-shirt too!
Garrett Taylor almost 13 years ago
@Kira More like $30. PayPal charges a $20 fee. At least they did when I recieved my $500 from placing second in a challenge on here. However I don't know if it is a flat fee. It could be a percentage fee...
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
That's lame, Paypal shouldnt do that..
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
$47.75 is what you should get if you win a $50 prize
Garrett Taylor almost 13 years ago
so I guess its about a 4.25% fee
teigan almost 13 years ago
i am loving that everyone who invested time gets recognition and thanks. this is the way all challenges should be run, even if that means there are no big prizes awarded. the "winner take all" format is always bad for participants in the long run. i can prove this mathematically for those of you in doubt.
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
I do! Please
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Teigan, are you some sort of Charlie Eppes? ;)
Ravichandra J P almost 13 years ago
This challenge has maximum number of comments. 234 as of now, including this itself....
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Not true.
Kira almost 13 years ago
Paypal took 4% of the transfer money I won from GrabCAD :(
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
Are those winners or just comments to their projects??
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
"Their design was well presented and explained, and is easy to make and use. The foil seal will be opened in a manner prescribed by design, not by human error, which is a common problem with all dispensing cap designs. In addition, there are very few parts and will be inexpensive to manufacture."
what about first rule? about metal parts?
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
Congs to all winners!!!
Robin Diekmann almost 13 years ago
Congratulations to all the winners!
Andres San Millan almost 13 years ago
Congratulations to all the winners!
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Congratulations to the winners! I thought I had this one in the bag but there must have been some great designs.
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
You cannot see because it private model.
I tried to search for others as well and cannot find them too.
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
@Alexei Foil is okay to use like YD stated in the earlier comments. Those are the winners, congratulations to all of them! YD and judges were so impressed that they asked to point out those members' designs they loved but didn't win top prizes as honorable mentions. Great work!
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
to Stephen
I had same feeling too )
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
at least i got 150$ )
too bad that we cannot see what others made to win.
that drives me crazy! )

Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
how can you know this?
Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Well there are 14 winners if you add the honerable mensions and just over 140 entries so if your name is listed above you finished in the top 10%
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
@Alexei I'm not sure what you mean. Are you not sure how @Stephen knows he's in the top 10% or are you not sure how I know honorable mentions and winners profiles?
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
congs. you in )
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago

@ Stephen, guess the beer is on me ;)
joost van tricht almost 13 years ago
@Sara When you received no mail or something, you haven't won anything?

Stephen Nyberg almost 13 years ago
Well done Drazen I thought i had you but i guess beer is good too :)
Drazen almost 13 years ago
Thanks Stephen. Deal is a deal :)
Hooman Zoka almost 13 years ago
congratulation dear guys!Rostam
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
@EvilWorker and @Drazen No entries will be published other than what is on the Results page. We are doing so to respect the wishes of YD and his team to make this a truly private Challenge. It keeps the mystery alive :)
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
Please note: Everyone who submitted an entry will be contacted privately to arrange payments. If you have any questions, please contact catherine@grabcad.com
Igor B almost 13 years ago
Thank you everybody. Thank you GrabCAD for this amaizing challenge. And molte grazie Elena for making my boring 3D model look irresistible. You are awesome! Thanks also to Vladimir Mastilovic vladimir.mastilovic@3lateral.com for doing the animation in such a short timeframe. You too are awesome!
Now I can't wait to find out who te mystery sponsor is, or at least I hope I will find out. This challenge was all about suspense, and still is, even now, when it is finished.
Igor Besic
Bob Spikman almost 13 years ago
Congratulations Igor! Sara can you tell me why we had to send in our CV/Portfolio a couple of weeks ago? I am really curious to know how a CV can make a difference within such a competition. Regards
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
Please note that results have been removed to maintain the secure nature of this private challenge. To see the winners' names along with the honorable mentions, look above in the comment thread. Again, we will contact all participants regarding payments. Thank you all for such a successful Challenge! @Bob this company is looking to follow-up with some of you post-challenge, this most likely had to do with possible future work with them.
RF_Design almost 13 years ago
Thank you very much for the award. I'm looking forward to work with the sponsor of this project.
Garrett Taylor almost 13 years ago
where is my $50?
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
and mine 150?
Hevi almost 13 years ago
@Garrett & @Alexei - ppl wait :) It's just stupidf... money :) I think u will get it but be patient... maybe Im disappoin(I think just like u r) ted zLzyon, nut whbat can I do? ;) Life goes on ;)
Bob Spikman almost 13 years ago
@Garrett - This can take ages with grabcad. When I won the 3rd prize with the 3d printing competition I eventually looked for contact with the actual company that offered the prize. Expect little response from grabcad and expect it to take a while, too bad but no worriesvcvv
Drazen almost 13 years ago
Thanks Bob. I was just going to ask about that... It is not a problem to wait even a month but it would be nice if every once a while somebody let us know that something is happening
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
I am sorry that it takes some time to get you your hard earned rewards, but rest assured that you will be contacted and receive payments shortly. Right now, Catherine is going through and contacting owners of all 145 entries for your prize money!
Ridwan Sept almost 13 years ago
so where is the $50 for other entries?
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
same here. i sent my email but nothing happened. any news?
Drazen almost 13 years ago
What email? I guess they already have our mail (the one you used to log in to site) and they will contact us....
Phuoc Nguyen almost 13 years ago
Anybody have received $50 yet?
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
We pay all participants via their PayPal email address. Payments are on their way. Please contact catherine@grabcad.com if you are worried about your prize!
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
I didn't. I see others also not. (
Alexei Kositsin almost 13 years ago
Sara, could you please update what's going on?! we didnt get any money. why? is there a problem? are sponsors dont want to pay?!
Ravichandra J P almost 13 years ago
I received....
Ridwan Sept almost 13 years ago
I have not, and still waiting :). I had sent a private message to catherine@grabcad.com
Sara Sigel almost 13 years ago
There are many payments to make for this Challenge so it is taking longer than usual to collect all the necessary information. I am sorry that you haven't received money yet. @Alexei and @Ridwan have you heard back from Catherine? It has been a long time for you all but there is no problem with payments. It is just a slow process.
Hevi almost 13 years ago
I have learned something... to be patient :]
Asitha Lunuwaththa almost 13 years ago
I recived
MUSTAFA TOUIL almost 13 years ago
I have not received yet......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phuoc Nguyen almost 13 years ago
Thank GrabCAD! I have recieved!
Bob Spikman almost 13 years ago
When do we receive our awesome grabcad t-shirt?
Sara Sigel over 12 years ago
@Stephen, please keep all files private. I apologize for the inconvenience. This is the only Challenge (since everyone was awarded a prize) that all entries must remain private.
