How do I open 2012 Inventor files in 2016 SolidWorks?
2012 Inventor and 2016 SW is installed on this computer. I was able to open a CAD drawing with no issues. When I did that it actually brought up a dialog box. When I try and open a .ipt or .iam it just says processing in the bottom right corner. I have Autodesk Inventor Viewer 2019 installed if that matters. Error logs were created in notepad but they do not tell me anything.
edit: actually the files may have been created in a later version of Inventor and not 2012. Maybe 2018. I have no idea.

if you just want to see how model looks like, just convert it to step file and then open it.
You can open the files with Solidworks interconnect. As far as i remember solidworks interconnect option comes with solidworks 2018. Send the files who has 2018 or above versions, and convert step.
