Switching back and forth from an .idw and .iam file ?

If I switch back and forth from an .idw and .iam file while open simultaneously Inventor will say "Not Responding" and will do what I describe a a mini crash. The program will stay open but I lose all Inventor video on my screen temporarily until the program recovers. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I think there is some new feature in this OS that tries to detect if a program is not responding and to try to "fix" it for you. Sometimes this "fix" seems to involve terminating the program.

I've had this happen on an older machine. Patience was the key. The OS response of not responding is incorrect, it should say busy. More ram helped a bit, but new machine eliminated the issue.

I think that IV uses a lot of virtual memory. Maybe increasing the size of swap file can help.

I've had this happen alot as I shitch back and forth alor in 2012. Patience is the key as Kevin says. If it's an unusually long time, I'll go to the task manager and pull up the processes tab to check what's happening with the cpu and memory usage numbers of the Inventor.exe process. If the cpu is getting usage but the memory usage is not changing, the process is hung and I close out and re-start Inventor.
