How to model a lamp in SolidWorks?

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to create one of these beautiful lamps in SolidWorks,with only 14 steps.
Commands you’ll use: Sweep, Extrude, Revolve, Fillet.
Time to complete: abt 15 min.

  1. Step 1:

    STEP 1
    First you need to create a sketch on the Front Plane with given dimensions.

  2. Step 2:

    STEP 2
    Then you need to ‘smooth’ the sharp corners with some fillets.
    I’ll let the radius at your choice.
    At the end of step 2, your sketch should look like this.

  3. Step 3:

    STEP 3
    Next, you need to create a reference plane with Origin set as first reference point,then second and third reference will be the Front Plane and the Right Plane.

  4. Step 4:

    To complete the 4th step,you need to sketch a circle on the plane created earlier with a radius of 10 then sweep it along Sketch 1.

  5. Step 5:

    At this step you need to create a new sketch located on the base of the Lamp.
    Select the Lamp base,click New Sketch and create a circle with the radius of 200 then extrude it as shown in figure.

  6. Step 6:

    At this step you have to create a new sketch at the other end of the Lamp body.
    Select the face,click on Create New Sketch and draw a circle as shown in figure,then extrude it.

  7. Step 7:

    STEP 7
    For a ‘smooth looking’ ,try to create a fillet on the blue edge.

  8. Step 8:

    Create a new part and then,on the Front Plane create a sketch as shown in the figure...then revolve it along the axis.

  9. Step 9:

    At this step you have to create another part…this will be the bulb. :)
    Create on the Front Plane a sketch as shown in the figure,then revolve it along the axis.

  10. Step 10:

    Create an assembly and insert the three parts.

  11. Step 11:

    STEP 11
    Try to mate the Lamp Body with the bulb.

  12. Step 12:

    STEP 12
    …and then merge them.

  13. Step 13:

    Do the same with the other parts.

    And in order to complete this tutorial,add some materials to components.
