How to model a simple spring in AutoCAD?

Tutorial about modeling a simple spring in AutoCAD.

  1. Step 1:

First off all make sure that you are on TOP view.

Then draw a circle with radius of 10 mm,I am using metric units,if you are using imperial units then you just convert mm to inch.

Now go to Draw panel and open the dropdown. You will find a tool called Helix, click on it.

  2. Step 2:

After you activated the command you need to specify the center point of your helix (coil).you will select the center of the circle.

Now you need to specify your base radius,it will be 10 mm because the radius of our circle is 10 mm so the coil will be in line,it wont be going inwards or outwards.

Now you need to do the same with the top radius, also 10 mm.

  3. Step 3:

After that your helix will show up.

Now press the down-arrow key on the keyboard to open the dropdown and then click turns.

    Write 8.

And now you just need to drag your helix upwards or downwards, and click when you find it good,or you can specify height if you want to be precise.

  4. Step 4:

Here you go,now you have got your coil, but we want an actual spring so the job is not over jet.

Change the view to Front view. You can also delete the base circle.

    Now go to circle command.

click on the base point of your helix and draw a circle with a radius of 1 mm.

  5. Step 5:

This is the final step, now we nee to turn this helix into a real spring,

We are going to do that by using a SWEEP feature.

    Select object to sweep,select circle.

    Select sweep path,select helix.

And here you go,you have your spring now :)
