Revolve feature is used for revolving surfaces and solids. If you have open geometry than you can revolve to form a surface else you can form a solid geometry.

  1. Step 1:

    Start SolidWorks in part mode.

  2. Step 2:

Front plane>>sketch and draw a rectangle in 2nd quadrant.

  3. Step 3:

Exit the sketch. Now under features tab choose axis under reference geometry.

  4. Step 4:

Select top plane and origin. This will create an axis normal to top plane passing through origin. Click OK.

  5. Step 5:

Now since we have closed geometry we can create solid as well as surface from it. Under features tab choose revolved boss/base since we are going to create a solid.

  6. Step 6:

Select the profile and axis1. Click OK.

  7. Step 7:

And we have a revolved solid.

  8. Step 8:

    Now delete the revolve1 feature.

  9. Step 9:

    Edit the sketch1.

  10. Step 10:

Remove any line to make it an open geometry. This will be used to create a revolved surface.

  11. Step 11:

    Exit the sketch.

  12. Step 12:

Now select the revolve surface under surfaces tab.

  13. Step 13:

    Select the sketch and axis1.

  14. Step 14:

Click OK and we have revolved surface generated.
