How to use revolve in SW?

Revolve feature is used for revolving surfaces and solids. If you have open geometry than you can revolve to form a surface else you can form a solid geometry.

Step 1:
Start SolidWorks in part mode.

Step 2:
Front plane>>sketch and draw a rectangle in 2nd quadrant.

Step 3:
Exit the sketch. Now under features tab choose axis under reference geometry.

Step 4:
Select top plane and origin. This will create an axis normal to top plane passing through origin. Click OK.

Step 5:
Now since we have closed geometry we can create solid as well as surface from it. Under features tab choose revolved boss/base since we are going to create a solid.

Step 6:
Select the profile and axis1. Click OK.

Step 7:
And we have a revolved solid.

Step 8:
Now delete the revolve1 feature.

Step 9:
Edit the sketch1.

Step 10:
Remove any line to make it an open geometry. This will be used to create a revolved surface.

Step 11:
Exit the sketch.

Step 12:
Now select the revolve surface under surfaces tab.

Step 13:
Select the sketch and axis1.

Step 14:
Click OK and we have revolved surface generated.
