Tutorial - Making a pipe joint in SolidWorks?

Here is the Tutorial.

  1. Step 1:

    Start Solidworks.

  2. Step 2:

    Right plane>>Sketch.

  3. Step 3:

Draw a circle with diameter 60mm.

  4. Step 4:

Under Surface tab select extruded surface.

  5. Step 5:

Extrude surface it by 120mm with mid plane configuration.

  6. Step 6:

    Click OK.

  7. Step 7:

    Front Plane>>Sketch.

  8. Step 8:

Draw a circle with origin as center of 60mm diameter.

  9. Step 9:

Extrude surface it again with a height of 120mm diameter and mid plane configuration.

  10. Step 10:

    Click OK.

  11. Step 11:

    Top Plane>>Sketch.

  12. Step 12:

Draw this rectangular entity using lines. Remember I have not inserted any points but using lines. The points are differing line.

  13. Step 13:

Under Surfaces tab choose trim surface.

  14. Step 14:

Select the inner surfaces to trim.

  15. Step 15:

Click OK and you have some entity like this.

  16. Step 16:

Under Surfaces tab choose lofted surface.

  17. Step 17:

Select this edge of the surface.

  18. Step 18:

Again select the corresponding edge of the surface.

  19. Step 19:

Open Constraint settings and change start constraint to tangency to face.

  20. Step 20:

Change Close constraint to tangency to face.

  21. Step 21:

    Click OK.

  22. Step 22:

Repeat the same step for other edges too.

  23. Step 23:

Under Surfaces tab choose Filled surface.

  24. Step 24:

Choose the edges enclosing open region.

  25. Step 25:

    Change contact to Tangent.

  26. Step 26:

    Check Apply to all edges.

  27. Step 27:

    Choose OK.

  28. Step 28:

Repeat the same step for other surface too.

  29. Step 29:

Under surfaces choose Knit surface. This will knit down multiple surfaces into one.

  30. Step 30:

    Select all Surfaces.

  31. Step 31:

Check Merge entities & click OK.

  32. Step 32:

    Choose Thicken in Surfaces tab.

  33. Step 33:

Select the knit surface to thicken. Check thicken distance to 2mm.

  34. Step 34:

Change the thickness height to inside the region.

  35. Step 35:

Click OK and we have a pipe joint.

When I tried to make the Lofted Surface (Steps 16 to 23) the software creates a full pipe between the two circles, Do you know how to fix it??
