What is a combine feature used for in SW?

Combine feature is used to perform simple boolean operations like union, subtract and intersect. For performing the combine the multiple bodies are required.

Here is the tutorial

  1. Step 1:

    Start SolidWorks

  2. Step 2:

    Choose Front plane and Sketch.

  3. Step 3:

    Draw a rectangle.

  4. Step 4:

    Exit the sketch and Choose Extrude.

  5. Step 5:

    Choose extrusion height and then OK.

  6. Step 6:

    Choose the front surface of the box and sketch.

  7. Step 7:

    Choose normal to.

  8. Step 8:

    Create a circle at one corner of the box.

  9. Step 9:

    Choose extrude under features tab

  10. Step 10:

    Choose mid plane under direction one and uncheck the merge result. Unchecking the merge result will make both the features different bodies.

  11. Step 11:

    Choose OK

  12. Step 12:

    Insert>>Features>>Combine

  13. Step 13:

    Select addition and then both the bodies. Click show preview.

  14. Step 14:

    Then click OK. Now these bodies are merged into one body.

  15. Step 15:

    Edit combine feature.

  16. Step 16:

    Select Subtract. Choose box as the main body and cylinder as the body to subtract.

  17. Step 17:

    Click show preview and then OK.

  18. Step 18:

    Now you can see that the cylinder was subtracted from the box.

  19. Step 19:

    Again edit the combine feature and choose Common.

  20. Step 20:

    Click OK. Now the common part in both the bodies is obtained.
