How do I join two surfaces?

I am trying to join a fuselage of a model plane I am creating to the vertical fin using surfaces. I have played around with 2 surface blend but was wondering if there is a better way of doing this and what geometry I have to put in place to achieve a controlled aspect. 2 surface blend, the way I am using it, seems to lose a lot of the original shape or has difficulty rendering what I want. Maybe I am just not using correctly?

This is a band aid not a patch but, if you convert the surfaces to solids under the solids menu you can then Boolean add them together that way.
