What is the main difference between "Ansys Multiphysics and Ansys Work Bench"?
You can directly model in workbench to use it for various analysis rather than importing model into it as in APDL. Also you cannot carry out 2D structural analysis in a more efficient way in workbench as in APDL. Now workbench also comes with FLUENT and CFX included.
1.Workbench supports modeling using Design Modeler with addition to Importing.
2.Modeling allows user to Mesh Intricate shapes and define Loads at a go
3.Report generation can be done with ease.
4.Can Import data from Multiphysics and viceversa
5.Can run many projects which is not possible in Multiphysics(1 at a time)
In work bench allows more freedom where shape errors are allowed such as skew, aspect ratio has wide tolerance the elements adjust automatically fit to geometry but in Ansys Multiphysics (Classic) these features were not there and other advantage in classic is more options to select many elements as per the requirement post processing time will be high in Multiphysics and results will be more accurate than work bench
As CAE engineer and ansys user i can say; that Ansys Multiphysics a product pack of software and workbench is interface of that software. Before Ansys were using APDL interface (we named it black screen of dead :) ) and they developed Workbench for more user friendly interface.
For more info you can check;
Ansys Workbench.............................Ansys Product Launcher- APDL
1. Interface is easy.............................little clumpsy
2. Interacts easily with........................only IGES/Step file can be imported
other CAD packages.
3. Step wise solving scheme..............not in a clear orderly manner
4. Little errors such as contact...........the model should be free from error.
errors are neglected/allowed
5. If a mistake is done it can be.........no such options no possiblity of ctrl+Z
6. Update geometries, Boundary........it is difficult
conditions or add parameters
7. You can integrate two or more........once again it is difficult
solvers. ie. structural+thermal,
8. Vast analysis capabilities,...............Analysis is limited.
wide area of applications
Overall workbench is easy for beginners to start their analysis, easy to learn. and for advanced persons its like a feast. In ansys v15 the apdl has been integrated with workbench.. Hope I cleared your doubt.....
In fact, what are you reffering is about interface, and not solvers in fact. ANSYS Multiphysics have both modules. ANSYS CLASSIC or new MAPDL represent the first interface of ANSYS for the users. ANSYS WORKBENCH represent the new interface of ANSYS for users.
From my point of view, because when I start to use/learn ANSYS it was ANSYS CLASSIC more familiar, I prefer him. Other reason because I prefer CLASSIC or MAPDL version is because allow possibility to control everithing very easy: element type, materials, contacts, loads, constraints, etc.
On the other side, now ANSYS WORKBENCH incorporate by each superior version all capabilities from MAPDL. Some of important advantage of using Workbench are: mesh more easy, automatic contact, and so on.
Depends very much what models you will study. For simply model is very good Workbench, but for assemblies I recommand Classic even is more difficult, but you have control more better on contacts betweens components.
