In this tutorial, we will first create a shaft feature with thickness, in CATIA V5 using opened sketch. Then, we will apply a circular profile pad using 2 limits and add a concentric hole to it. Later, we will add a stiffener between the pad and the shaft created, and apply edge fillet all around it. Lastly, we will create a circular profile pocket and apply circular pattern around the shaft axis.

Most of you might be already familiar with the usage of difference in these two command along with taper during extrusion. But for those who are still aware of the difference this tutorial is for them. This might be a very tiny thing but it does impact in thickness of design.

Hi welcome back to CADable. Here I am starting a new playlist related to basic tutorials of SOLIDWORKS. This is the 4th tutorial of this playlist. It is a good exercise for beginners and it will be a good practice for beginners. In this tutorial, we will learn these commands: 1) Basic 2D Commands 2) Extruded Boss 3) Shell Command 3) Multi-Thickness Shell 4) Color 5) Evaluate 6) 3D Dimensions Kindly use play pause technique for practice. I have attached files in the description for practice. Feel free to ask your queries in comment section. I will try to answer each and every question. Keep practicing as practice makes a man perfect. What is zero thickness geometry?

Zero thickness geometry is when a feature is created that can not be solved due to the fact that there is precisely zero material at only a point or an edge. An example would be if you created an extruded circle that is tangent to an extruded square. There is a good explanation here: http://help.solidworks.com/2012/English/SolidWorks/sldworks/HIDE_ZeroThickness.htm I've reposted the general guidelines from that site below as reference.

I'm not sure if this is the "correct" answer, but I got it to work by adding Thickness@Sheet-Metal1 to the table and changing it along with PL Thick.@Lofted Bends1. See screen caps.

Super hack to create hollow objects for 3d printing in Rhino

This is a quite easy “hack” how to create hollow objects that are usually not allowed by other CAD programs. Great for 3d printing. Simply connect the outer and inner objects via some random pipe or box, then join everything and untrim the hole that connects them with the ! _Untrim tool. You will notice that the two original separate objects now appear as a single object instead, despite the lack of an actual connection in-between. An alternative way is to select both objects and use the following commands: NonManifoldMerge, then CreateRegions, then delete the region you do not want, such like the core inside the sphere in this particular example.
