nice challenge !
Tobias Mattsson about 13 years ago
What kind of video are we talking about here? Still images and some moving elements or a Advertise with people moving and talking?
Joel Anderson about 13 years ago
Not sure why the winners (who presumably already own a 3D mouse) would need another one as a prize...but anyway, I'll be following this. It might be just what I need to convince myself I need one
Branko Stokuca about 13 years ago
I would really like to be in this challenge but unfortunately I still live in the stone age and I use an ordinary mouse. So the solution for this problem is rather simple: 3Dconnexion should sent me a 3D mouse so that I could see how it works and in return they will get my video. I told you it was a simple solution :)
Manolis Theofilos about 13 years ago
Nice challenge. I want to see if I am missing anything not using a 3d mouse.
Chris Schoener about 13 years ago
Very nice contest with great prizes, definitely worth your time to enter.
I also do not have or even had the opportunity to try a 3D mouse.
Its hard to miss what you do not know.
Maybe someone who wins a new one can hand me down their old one so I can try it? ha ha
John B about 13 years ago
I would enter this but im not sure when my 3D mouse is going to arrive :(
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
Somehow this challenge is a little back to front …. I am positive that the winner will be very happy to have two mouse (is it mouse or mouse’s?). But boy at the price he is going to need Steven Spielberg to convince me through a video to go out and buy one or that I even need one. I suppose I would be happy to have one or better still WIN one, but this challenge is for mouse have’rs not mouseless have not’s. …… “you think it’s a mouth-full to say you should try typing it”.
Oh well …. So be it
Tomas about 13 years ago
Do you have a 3D model of this 3D mouse?
Allen about 13 years ago
Are we still able to enter if we don't have a 3d mouse?
Laszlo Jakab about 13 years ago
This is a very interesting challenge....."ha-ha...ho-ho" -----> that people will to win a 3D mouse, whom have already a 3D flymouse??!?
Stop the traditional mouse racism! XD
I like to work with traditional mouse, but I'd like to try a 3D flymouse as well. May be it can help in my work.
Please 3DConnexion, send me a product sample, that I can take part in the competition so I can win an other one too.
Tomas about 13 years ago
Maybe I can get the 3D Mouse file? No matter what kind of format ..
CCG about 13 years ago
why only the 3d mouse users??? and the price is a also a 3d mouse...so if i had a 3d mouse why would i need another one....and how will a demo influence me in buying a 3d mouse....so this is not a very good challenge....not good at all...if you would ask me it is the worse challenge ever because not anyone can participate....includind 3d mouse NONUSERS....but what the hell do i know about life...i don't even have a 3d mouse....
CCG about 13 years ago
Oooo i forgot to tell you in case you are wondering why am i so upset on this challenge. very simple. Some of us even if we have tallent we were born in a country still in the stone-steel age....sorry guys but it is the reality and giving a price to someone that already has that price and not to someone else that might be usefull to him....hhmmmm
CCG about 13 years ago
I mean prize not price...sorry
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
Jordi van Es you are right it is mice .... so with that in the bag the winner here will no longer have a 3D mouse but instead will have a desk top full of 3D mice.
The poor fellow that wins can now get a helping hand from all of us.
We can enter the challenge by design the best “desk top 3Dconnexion “mice” trap" …… hows that!
Greg Hynd about 13 years ago
For the lucky winners who end up with a whole desk full of mice, you may need this. Mouse Trap
Check out the last render lol.
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
Sorry Greg ...... for a 3dconnexion mice trap that is far too simple.... we can do better .... remember this is a all knowing and all doing mouse, and when their are two (3dconnesion mice) or more the all knowing and all capable mice need something far more inventive to be enticed into a trap
CCG about 13 years ago
We need to design a 3dconnexion mous trap to be abble to catch a 3dconnexion mouse.....maybe the trap won't kill him and i will finaly have a 3d mouse...yuuupppiiiiiiiiii
CCG about 13 years ago
my simple cheap classic retarded mouse tried to bit my hand and i wrote wrong...again
John Moseley about 13 years ago
Hi all, John from 3Dconnexion here. Thanks for the comments, I am glad the challenge has caught your attention! Let me address a few of the points raised.
1. What kind of video are we looking for?
You need to show how you use your 3D mouse & why you like it. Exactly how you do this is up to you - that's the challenge! We don't want to give too much direction as we are genuinely interested to see how "real" users would demonstrate their 3D mouse. Take a look at some of the user videos on YouTube already. Hopefully you think "I can do better than that"..!
2. Why would someone with a 3D mouse want to win another one?
Allan answered this already. The prizes available are top of the range 3D mice so someone with a SpaceNavigator (for example) would be very happy to win a SpacePilot Pro or SpaceMouse Pro.
Thank you to all the non 3D mouse users that have made comments. We appreciate this challenge is not something you can participate in but we hope you follow it and find the results interesting.
Good luck to everyone
John Moseley about 13 years ago
@Andjelic Zoran - I have sent you a direct message with instructions on how to assign DELETE to one of your 3D mouse function keys.
Hevi about 13 years ago
So this challenge is for 3d mouse users only :(
Tobias Mattsson about 13 years ago
Well Hevi, if you know how a 3D mouse works and animate or text the entire video you could be in the challenge.
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
@John Moseley .... Sir. I think it is great and fantastic that you have given the “3d mouse haves” a chance to get an even better 3D mouse giveing them 3Dconnexion mice. But please give one or two or three or more for a fun design of a “3Dconnexion mouse trap” or maybe a “Desk top 3Dconnexion mouse protector”. All we would need is a front, side, back and top view of your product. I think this would truly show how many would really want to own a 3Dconnexion mouse
Zoran Andjelic about 13 years ago
Macro works perfectly. I have seen that puldown menu is much longer than I thought and that contains delete.
Thank you very much; It's excellent tool...
John Moseley about 13 years ago
@Doug Davey - thanks for the great suggestion Doug! I am sure we can do something like that in the future ;-)
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
@John Moseley .... Now that sounds just great ..... I for one can not wait..... your "future" is hopefully the same as mine, which is next week. He He
John Moseley about 13 years ago
@Doug Davey... It's great to hear you are so keen but I think it will be a bit longer than next week as I'd like to focus on the current challenge first (to avoid spreading ourselves and the GrabCAD team too thinly!).
Doug Davey about 13 years ago
@John Moseley .... Oh .................. OK
Branko Stokuca about 13 years ago
Does this mean that I am not getting my 3D mouse that I requested for this challenge? :(
Back to the stone age...again
Alex about 13 years ago
Can anyone give me a tip on what software to use to capture my screen while drawing? Since I've started working with a 3D mouse a few years ago at work I don't even want to draw without :).

Hey ! Don´t have any, but I have worked with one and after I had to give it bact to it´s owner, I remember that I couldn´t work for a while at all. Nice challenge - maybe I can make something, too without device - something different. So many prizes, too - nice work !
Nathan Munoz about 13 years ago
I really want to make a video and I probably will! But, just a quick question. I don't want to sound like a money-grubber, but when will i receive the money if i happen to win? I need the money for school, so if someone could give me a heads up, that would be great. Thanks, and btw a 3-D mouse is something i cant go without anymore.
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
@Nathan we will send out the winning money during one week after the results have been announced.
Hardi Meybaum about 13 years ago
We send out the money via Paypal.
Pedro Morales about 13 years ago
I work in mexico and unfortunely I can't make a video using the 3D mouse, I really, really wanto to show all of you how I use this mouse on NX4 and NX6 and Mastercam X4, it's really powerfull.
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
Pedro, you have 23 days to learn how to do it. Can anybody recommend any good and easy "video making" software to start with?
Nathan Munoz about 13 years ago
Hey thanks for the reply. This could really help our team get to worlds. Please check out my model and video on youtube. Thanks!
CCG about 13 years ago
yeeeiiii we have an entry....i am so glad...or not cause is private...hmmmm how cool is that????
Branko Stokuca about 13 years ago
:( At first I was very happy to see that someone had entered this challenge but seeing that the video is private just killed the happiness.
Tomas about 13 years ago
Can upload this mouse CAD file???? I'll make the presentation...
Pedro Morales about 13 years ago
@Kaspar and Allan, the razon that why I can't make the video is beacuse I use the 3D mouse on my job.... so the corporative politics do not allow me to make and/or take pictures and videos, I hope to buy my own 3D mouse and make the video on my home in the next days....
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
We are happy to see first 2 entries already and 18 days to go.
luaay about 13 years ago
im a little confused as to this point:
The software they are using for the demo video
are you asking to what video software used to make the video or what software is shown as to demonstrate in the video how the mouse works?
John Moseley about 13 years ago
@luaay naboulsi - I don't understand who are you asking that question to? Let me know if you are confused about the challenge (i.e. what type of video we are asking people to submit). Cheers
luaay about 13 years ago
hey john
i just wanted to clarify the third point of the requirements for the challenge
'The software they are using for the demo video"
so the software used to make the video or the example of what programs we show in the video?
thanks buddy
John Moseley about 13 years ago
Hi Luaay, that's a very good question! We mean the software that's shown in the video (i.e. the CAD software you are using your 3D Mouse with). Examples would include SolidWorks, Inventor, SketchUp, 3ds Max etc... I hope that clarifies and that you are preparing to create an entry? ;-)
luaay about 13 years ago
Hey John
Awesome just wanted to clarify that point
Yep making my entry should have it entered soon :)
Thanks buddy
RickyMon about 13 years ago
is it possible to change one of the 2nd,3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th prices for a SpacePilot PRO??? instead of a spacemouse.
RickyMon about 13 years ago
so, do we need to upload a model besides the video itself???
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
@Ricky you can model as well if you like.

RickyMon about 13 years ago
LOL, u read my mind alan... However the contest is gettin more
tricky every day
RickyMon about 13 years ago
until what time of this day , grabacad will be accepting more entries?
Kaspar Kiis about 13 years ago
GrabCAD will accept entries for next 24 hours.
Michael May about 13 years ago
Finaly, i have uploaded my entry! Yeaaay :-)
Unfortunatelly i had no time to search for a better announcer, yea i was really late. Hope you guys can live with the sexy german accent :-)
One note to the people who have run this challenge. To improve the requirements for future challenges, which includes videos.
The overall length is really helpfull for the challenger and the judges and is a standard requirement for all video contest i have seen so far.
The problem is, you can´t compare a 2mins tutorial with a 15+mins tutorial. If your want detailed informations about the produkt you need your time to explain everything. But not everyone want such a long turial, some will only have a quick insight. For me it was a short as possible overview for peoples like the most of my friends, who never seen a flymouse and can´t even imagine for what it is goog for. Both kind of tutorials have ther pros and contras and are really hard to compare.
Anyway, this is my first ever uploaded file to grapCAD and it won´t be the last. Keep up the good work, i really like your site.

Congratulations to michael for first place very well deserved and 2nd place great video well deserved.
But i have to say very disappointed in the judges 3rd 4th and 5th place were very poorly chosen, I would like to especially point out the 6th place video that was a very pathetic choice as a winner, there are other videos which deserve 6th place and that video is definatly not even close!
i expect a correction to these choice of winners as the chosen winners from 3rd to 6th is a joke!
luaay almost 13 years ago
i would like to know kaspar if i may ask how did u and the other judges score the videos the comments don't tell me much it gives me a feeling use didn't finish watching half the videos.
example:(lots of information shared with good use of vocabulary)
was it the word "evolution" that got you a little excited?
to be blunt he gave no real information to the mouse except its a input device that uses a 6axis controller
and ill use my own as an example (brief introduction from experience 3d mouse user) really thats very disrespectful
i would like to know from you and the other judges what that means because really! it isn't feedback it seems like more of a description to my video
and I've been using the 3d mouse for 5 months I'm not very experienced
i would like to know kaspar please and thank you
i know i come across as rude forgive me but just stating the truth i can see other videos including my own who have worked hard n passionatly which defiantly deserve better than the judges beleive
{ps sorry erik but its true your video doesn't deserve 6th place there are a few should have been before you.}
Kevin Cox almost 13 years ago
@Luaay Well, I received 3rd place and I put quite a lot of effort fully explaining the benefits of a 3d mouse and features. I also believe it is subjectivity a good video in general. What makes you "very disappointed" about it? Seems like lumped criticism.
RickyMon almost 13 years ago
Liked ur video Luay... Don't feel dissapointed dude, I know how u feel, I been there, keep up the good work, I was dreaming with the SpacePilot Pro, but u see, Michael did a great effort, well deserve... Just for you to know 3dconnexion gives away 3 or 6 spacemice a month, just go to the web...
RickyMon almost 13 years ago
I'm curious about the private entry
Paul Tripon almost 13 years ago
Congratulations to all participants !
In my opinion, the SUGGESTED CONTENT in description was incomplete.
It should include:
- artistic impression
- games specific tips & tricks
luaay naboulsi almost 13 years ago
@kevin Whats 'very disappointing' is the 6th place your video was good I enjoyed the details and the head moulding part. If I was a judge though I would have went with micheal Futch's video or Martin meier. I found them to be more interesting and appealing I'm not taking a selfish point and saying my video is better than everyone else's. 3rd 4th and 5th are debatable videos they are not dissappointing, though 6th place is flat out wrong. Congrats on your video Kevin and my disappointment lies in 6th place Not in urs.
luaay naboulsi almost 13 years ago
@ ricky mate I love your positivity lol. I have my space navigator and I love it. its principal the feedback is useless and the judging gotta figure that out. and Michael did a great job ive mentioned that already. :) ps love the iron man scene in your video really awesome! and congrats on your win! :)
Michael May almost 13 years ago
First, thanks to all the congratulations! I'm really happy about the first place!
I´m glad that my friend spoke the vocals. I have a terrible german accent... :P
@discusion about the ranking: Paul Tripon is right. The description about the contest was not perfect. As i mentioned earlier, the length should be limited.
But the content, which the judges want, are in the most cases less detailed.
For example, there was a Videocontest from myvideo.de about a video with 99sec length and the only information was "about coffee".
It was all up to you, to impress the judges with your "coffee video"...
And i think this was the intension from the judges about this contest.
Impress us with your idea, how to show the world the awesomeness of our products!
So it is hard to doubt about the decision from the Judges, because it is a subtile decision about what they like or not.
The only problem is, the difference between the showed information in the videos, because of their total length from 3mins up to 15mins. This makes a huge difference between the videos, which is hart to judge.
But all together, it was a really nice first Video-contest. I hope there will be more :)
Best regards
Michael
John Moseley almost 13 years ago
Hi all, I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to everyone that entered the challenge. I was amazed at the amount and more importantly the quality of videos produced. Regarding the comments about the description of the contest, as Michael May says we tried to give some guidelines without being too specific. Regarding the choice of winners, the three judges made their top 8 selections independently before the scores were combined to give a top 6. Kaspar's link shows some fairly different opinions. Personally, I found the judging process rewarding and difficult at the same time and definitely wanted to select more than 8 winners! Once again, sincere thanks to all those that took the time to enter the challenge, I hope you continue to enjoy using your 3D mouse and I would be very happy to hear any more feedback from you in this thread or via a direct message.
