Show off your skills and solve real design problems
We're kicking off another rendering contest to give you a chance to win the new release of KeyShot 4 Pro + Animation! KeyShot 4.1 is just in time for summer and with it we're introducing a new Toon material and its integration with GrabCAD.
We want to see what you can do with the new Toon material and give you a chance to check out the new ability to upload your renderings directly to GrabCAD. Any of your models or any from GrabCAD is fair game. We provide the details, you provide the creativity and the stunning 3D visuals. The best animation wins a seat of KeyShot Pro + Animation, the best rendering wins a seat of KeyShot Pro and both receive the enduring admiration of the KeyShot and GrabCAD communities!
For a KeyShot 4.1 trial without watermarked renderings, email license@luxion.com with "KeyShot Toon Challenge" in the subject line. You will receive a 15 day license for use in the contest.
Tell us what work went into your rendering or animation in the project description! Describe what modeling software or other tools are used. If post editing is done, show a before and after. It's always interesting to see!
The toon shader sample scene is located on our GrabCAD profile here.
Above models by GrabCAD members Dragos Vasile Mitrofan and Joel Anderson, rendering by Rex Roberts

Adrien Liotard over 12 years ago
This contest looks very fun and I will participate for sure !
But I wonder if there is any problem about using models corresponding to licensed products ? (like an iPhone or a Ferrari for examplev
William over 12 years ago
Hi Adrien you can use any models from GarbCAD without the worry of it being a licensed product but you must be sure to tag your model and also give credit when credit is due.....
Entry description must include:
- Link to original model from GrabCAD.
- Name of original author of CAD files.
- Methods and tools used for animation or rendering
If you use a model that is not on GrabCAD then this might be a problem unless you know it is your own original concept.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing your renders along with the rest of the community.
Tommy Mueller over 12 years ago
@Adrien Liotard With some many 3D models available on GrabCAD, creative and otherwise, I'm sure it's very easy to steer away from the licensed products. Currently there are 231,667 CAD files available here on the site, there are a lot of options :)
KeyShot over 12 years ago
@Adrien Liotard and @Tommy Mueller Indeed, plenty of models on GrabCAD! If it's unknown, the rule of thumb is to avoid any visible branding. The sample file is an example of using multiple files from GrabCAD. You can see a video on using the Toon material and download a sample file as well on our GrabCAD page: KeyShot Toon Shader Example Scene

@d6a1bcfb "Bits" & "Bytes" of color are flowing for sure, and there is a wide blank canvas awaiting. Renders & animation, Keyshot, & GrabCAD; what a recipe for art-struction!!!

Thank you Sara and was a big decision to make to give up such a awesome challenge but all for the greater good of the community..... They are going to be some mind blowing renders getting uploaded for this one and like your self can not wait to see what people can do to push this new material to it's limits..... Exiting times ahead :)

How do I get a licence for the animation? It asks me a serial code to activate!
ssa over 12 years ago
Yes I did but the license the sent me didn't activate the animation feature

@Nikolv it can be a mix of materials as long as the TOON MATERIAL is also used.... Good luck with comp.

@staff @keyshot @entrants @jury Quick question: Should there be a minimum resolution for the rendering and/or animation?
Say @HD settings (1920x1080 resolution)
Any thoughts?
Tommy Mueller over 12 years ago
Haha, darn I knew it would make someone ill. LOL's
You're right Martin, it should be up to the visualization artist, a.k.a. "The Entrant"
"Bigger" isn't always better...and "size doesn't matter" in most cases
Govind Anand over 12 years ago
LOL do'nt know wt to do
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
I've got vertigo from watching that spinning animation gear. lol . anyways, I've 10 days to use the trial. Thanks to Brandon's prompt e-mail. I was suggested to upgrade graphic card, however I'm running off a netbook. Don't laugh, but it's all I can afford, hence why I am trying to win a rendering package. And perhaps with some luck find a job soon. My entry is for the underdog, with limited resource power , hopefully for whatever power it's capability, I'll try my best.
Stare tip for those who are running into problem with trial version of KS 4.1 :
Initially, the material list didn't show up, so I e-mail for help. the environment and everything else seems missing. I wasn't able to find the [ toon material ], then I discovered that only when clicked "Publish to Gradcad", that everything is functioning as normal. The problem I'm having now is when right click trying to publish to GrabCAD, it doesn't upload. So, if anyone can share or figure a solution. I know I should address this to Luxion but hoping the community here may have encounter the same issue.
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
I agree with you Martin 100%, funny you should mention it too; I’ve made a special data sheet to keep track of all the entrants for my personal use: a graphical/visual representation of values. I’m ranking entrants in categories I felt were aligned to the challenge goals.
And at the challenge’s end, I’ll share this info with everyone here so you can see how & why my votes are casted and for what reason. I think this’ll add a lot of value to all your hard work, efforts, and imagination. Oh, and you’ll know I paid attention to your works :P
Also, every entrant should know by now that I’ve been following your models, so each update, improvement, or new entry added is being kept in my cool little graph. You’ll get the very best evaluation possible from me.
Looking forward to seeing the best of the best!
So far, it's pretty darn amazing!
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
Hi Martin, and thanks for your suggestions. Lots of good people here, helpful to their peers. Very cool and clean community here. speaking of which, Tommy's comment about emphasized in above quotes " The Entrant" "Bigger " "sizes doesn't matter" had me laughing. So......the resolution sizes doesn't matter because we can always zoom in and out for our model, no matter if it's big or small, the dpi does, for us to see the LINES in the Toon, but we can see that it's sketch-like so I tried to increase the value to make it stand out a bit.
It is a good idea to make it so that it appears flat or a sketch only, if we just remove the reflection, shadows, environment, and not position it isometric view. Just not deviating from the idea of having it in toon material representation. Like how shown in magazines or websites with a thumbnail of a sketch instead of a 3D model.
@TOMMY, about the "special data sheet" does the NSA also have the entrants data as well for their personal use? ; D
the entries are amazing. i'm inspired by some, everyone here are seniors at their best. (way out of my league) I think this competition will certainly grab new members to grabcad as they do with competitions at deviantart. Gets the party going and more minions designing more gears and parts. it's cool to drop in and see other's hard work and go 'wow, that would take me forever to do!"
Stephen Nyberg about 12 years ago
My Grabby is a solid part and when I import him into KeyShot (I have tired a few different file formats) his lense and his teeth are considered the same suface. I want to apply different materials to both of these but I can't figure out how. Can someone give me any pointers on this? I need to have his lens clear and his teeth white but I can't get it to work
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Sure thing Stephen. This will help.
I first make a Solidworks "Display State", it works like a configuration if you've never used them before. I paint (apply appearances) to every surface "Face" specific for Keyshot; (some exceptions to the "face" application). I then import the SW file into Keyshot without issue and separated for my intent.
I've noticed Keyshot recognizes the surface color as geometry, so paint accordingly and you'll have no issues. Make your colors contrasting too. Don't use shades of the same color, Keyshot sometime picks them up as the same color/geometry.
Essentially:
Paint Grabby's teeth a separate color in SW, paint his lens a separate color, so forth and so on.
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
BTW, it has nothing to do with file formats; all formats have been great for separation that makes the difference. Use your raw Solidworks part file, turn up the quality settings, save, then import into Keyshotme, just the surface/face appearance

This is turning into one awesome challenge and from so many great uploads from the community and still with 20 day left.... This is going to be very had to judge and I imaging so many more renders to come. No wonder with the prizes that are on the table for the winner thanx to Keyshot.... Keep them coming guys yous are all doing an awesome job and very exited to see what else you guys can do with this new TOON MATERIAL within your renders. Good luck to all.
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Totally agree William, I thought the Fourth of July fireworks were a spectacle on the eyes, but this GrabCAD/Keyshot Toon challenge keeps getting better visually every day, like a firework that never ends! Well, I guess it does all end... in 20 days!
So, I’ve been keeping pretty good tabs on you GrabCAD’rs and your entries each day (spreadsheets, charts, and graphs...very pragmatic), and I’m excited for many of you entered in this competition!
As a suggestion going forward: If you have a good idea, make some updates to it OR “hatch” your new idea with quality and confidence :) Each day this competition is getting tougher, and the quality & quantity of ideas is vastly improving.
Think about the general appeal of your entry, it’s creativeness, it’s quality, and meeting OR exceeding the challenge goals. Make some terrific impressions for us in the jury, but most of all, have a good time and enjoy the sport of competition on GrabCAD.
Keyshot is fabulous software, go for it!!!
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
I feel giddy (running around like the minions) and excited every time I get on GrabCAD, seeing all the new toons. speaking of toons, anyone gone out to see Despicable Me 2 ? .. .no not me too .lol
How's everyone doing?
William about 12 years ago
LoL'ss yeah great HUGH and your self? I have seen Despicable me2, I take it you are a big fan looking @ your profile image hehehe
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
haha yup! did u enjoyed it? sorry folks ,bit off topic. just being casual as we're all friends here. hmmmm Wings, william care to give us an explanation? haha
GrabCAD's bot, Futurama's Bender and Despicable Minion..which is your favorite Everyone? hehe
Stephen Nyberg about 12 years ago
I would have to vote for Grabby. As you can see from my profile i love him I have three different models of him as well as using him for a tutorial, a group shot of a bunch of Grabbies and for this challenge
I love Grabby!
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
haha Stephen ,but Bender may beat Grabby to an arm wrestling match while Minion giggles
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
I'm still wondering what's that 1 private entry, is it a surprise for the very last minute?
Stephen Nyberg about 12 years ago
Grabby is an engineer bot while Bender is a mere technichian. Grabby wins hands down! and the Minios are - well - just minions.
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
LOL !!! @Stephan. right on ! there will be a day where grabcad grabby will be in everyone's home (running around like minions) as a household toy / pet, or even a handy helper, like Honda's Asimo but it's Mr. Grabby (that's sounded a bit wrong).
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
2 weeks left!!! Get those cores crunching!!! :))
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
I'll crunch on potato chips for now Tommy heheeh , my license expired , if it's 2 weeks left and trial is 14 days, i wonder if I can get an extension on the trial.
have a great day everyone!
Stephen Nyberg about 12 years ago
I just asked for my extension
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
thanks Stephen, thanks Martin. I'll shoot out an e-mail to Brandon for the request. This competition is so much fun! it motivates everyone back on Grabcad and everyone's so engaging and helpful here.
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
goodness! thanks for sharing Martin! you're awesome! but the guy who did that, he's just being a show off! kidding. super talented dude, dedicated and patient to model that. 23 hrs? I think a lot more hehe. the video . I wonder if the files of that model can be imported and made a 3d print of it. any guess what what software?
Like william said to me once upon a time that it's "speed modeling" ,but it's more painstakingly hours that put in.
Love those cute Minions characters, say it's hotter than actual female models for the digitals, maybe we can ask William to do some 3D female models ;P
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
saw a fellow coming in a local Starbucks and he's always working on Maya, always see how unbelievable to master. Seeing him for about 2 years working on his projects. Amazing stuffs, so many package out there. very cool to see everyone has their own unique style.
female minions? that would be amusing. would be a sinch to do. just throw a bow on the head and heavy coat of pantone or "TOONS MATERIAL" on the face. haha.
thanks for sharing by the way. I visited his work website. This GrabCad and Keyshot is the Bridge that bringing all the talents around the world into one place. truely a masterpiece
William about 12 years ago
LoL'ss @ Martin and effort :))))) @ HUGH Female Minion Hmmmmm Hmmmmmmm Hmmmmmmmm oKKKi dKKKi female Minion you shall have Minion man ehhehehe :P
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
LOL @ William & Martin on efforts. does Personality accounted for? minions definitely got personality. Without models, there's no Keyshot, without Keyshot, all talents hidden away? (intimidating what you said Martin, when they all polished their toons and reveal at last minutes, *nibbling on nails*) I came here for developing my talent (if I got any) and to have a launch pad like GrabCad and Keyshot as a platform to one day say, these guys skyrocketed my career. Grabcad and Keyshot recently putting the fun in my mundane days. I'm glad the folks at Keyshot giving us a trial and for granting me an extension so I can put in some more " efforts" . the bonus is coming on here everyday and you guys made it fun to be here haha. good laughs. I'm new here, so could anyone tell me if this is one of the best challenge ever ? I'm still a "noob" remember? but in a year or two, lets see what I learned and how many grabcad points I can earned. is it redeemable for a mr. Grabby ,SLS R.P. model? - On the animation part, I didn't have it in my trial, is it something I have to request separately? - Martin, hope to see your animation real soon. . you promised! lol
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
ha! thank..good peeps. encouragements and KS nurturing. , as digging deep. I did with one of the entry. I played with it until the result I got was like a hand sketch which that I was interested, no crooked lines and no protractors <--what are those . and really no Photoshop, just love simplicity (if not it would turned away people from learning sophisticated softwares) of Keyshot's feature. Like apple products. 1 button. ,Lord of the Ring, 1 ring, animation- many slides lol, so if KS captures in many frames and stitched together frames to create gifs? I think most people should be able to pick up keyshot and learn it in under 15 minutes.

Hello. I am nearly done with my file but I have a few questions:
Is it possible to use other softwares, (like Photoshop) only to post edit your work with graphical effects, as long as you are using the required 'Toon material'?
also
I have some renders which I used to make the final render. Do I have to upload all of them individually or is it possible to upload just one file that shows all the renders individually?
Thank you for the time and the opportunity.

Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Maybe submit preview video with Coming Soon sign if cannot finish render before deadline XD
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Wow, only 1 day and a few hours left!
Some amazing talent demonstrated with CAD, art, and Toon rendering.
...
The new Keyshot Toon shader has really opened up a ton of possibilities, simply blown away with many of these results here, and for those to come.
...
So...any predictions from GrabCAD members, outside of the jury?
Anyone want to share your favorites?
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin That will be very sad ...hahaha I have a job interview tomorrow, so unlikely to be rendering and touch up the final bits. Anyway I do it just for fun and more as a skill demonstrator (dunno whether it will help or scare away future employer). One company actually thought I am good in sound effect after viewing my Lite Plus video :p Now local comic association think that I am a comic artist after I show them my Keyshot toon renders.
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Tommy @Martin I am not the judge, so I wouldn't comment till the final result is out. Too much expectations will lead to more disappointments. Don't forget commerial value )is always a hidden criteria =
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Exactly that Martin, thanks for the comment. I'm just wondering what ya'll might think in as a group or individually. As I've said before, I've kept an excellent record of my findings & favorites, and my votes cannot be swayed. Every entry and every update has gotten my attention and focus; and I've been keeping score all along day-to-day. My job here is organized and nearly done.
...
My question is: What are your favorites? Simple answers if you have the time to comment
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
I'm still expecting a "last minute tsunami" of killer entries. :)
There must be a few bastards around that come in, all guns blazing, at the very last moment...
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Having said that, the animations and stills of Abed Sabeh are definitely my personal favorites.
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Hells yes, right on the money Dries!

30hrs left before time-up =)
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin My 5fps preview took 4.5hrs and just reach 85% =(
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
4 min/frame for a Toon render sounds like a lot?!
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
I need a 1:57 min video. Times 25, times 4mins. hmmm.... 195hrs? XD
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
I'm willing to offer some last-minute KeyShot rendering power... I have a speedy i7-3930K 4.6GHz machine here. Seriously, if you want I'll render some frames. First in (grabcad message) wins! ;-)
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
It's 2:38am here and I am still struck at preview (90%). Need some trimming before I can seek his rescue. Don't know how long I can stay awake. Less than 12 hrs before an interview =(
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
please, save a package (ksp file). The bip alone won't contain textures, HDRIs etc. ;-)
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Will do. After the preview is over, I will adjust camera position and speed. Then I wills end the BIP to him. Thanks
Abed Sabeh about 12 years ago
1 day left and more to come... just for fun :-)
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
19 hours left!
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
I am still waiting good news from Dries =)
Abed Sabeh about 12 years ago
I did a short animation on "The house & the frog", just for fun. Check it out!
Now it's time to concentrate on some real work.
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Mission failed...LOL Think I use what I have and stitch with a couple of still frames at the end XD
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Video rendering =( Now waiting for Dries to send what he had finished and stitch with still images :p
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Left 581 frames and each will take about 2min to render @ 720p on my comp. That's about 16hrs XD
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin how about we request for an extension?...LOL Dun worry. I will stitch the missing piece with 1 frame/sec for now =) It is more like a skill demonstrator (like graduate from Keyshot) than an entry. Will patch later when I have more time. Who knows Dries might suddenly pop up with a finished video :p
Mike Wiggins about 12 years ago
Yikes only six hours left.... I hope you guys get your submissions in on time! I'm anxious to see the finished product! Best of luck!
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Still working hard. Narrow down to 13sec. These are the nightmare ones. Each frame will can take as much as 15min =( Here's a "preview" https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1N9y47bCTzKOXRiSTV4eWE2OUU/edit?usp=sharing
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Thanks. I downloaded many models for this challenge including Space Ball One ^_^ Then I rotate them in all directions and found this is the most suitable one. It has a lot of edges, which I found good for Toon animation =)
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin I left out one detail. I will normally Keyshot my model in paint (gloss or matt), Then adjust the HDR to suit the environment before convert the model to Toon. It is easier to see shading in paint. But then again. Depending on your model, sometimes it just fail. I found out that flat and edgy models are good toon subjects =)
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
seeesh. this is a training ground for Jedi animators, becoming more of a production studio here soon lol very talented peeps!
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
3 hrs more and I have 225 frames more to render XD
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
about 1 hour LEFT!
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Last minute tsunami coming up?? :-)
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
Yay! can't wait to see the winners! drum rolls.... Tommy said 1 hr left, so either it's in or their engines still rendering.
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
After this, back to serious work for GE and Steampunk =)
Kin Moreno franco about 12 years ago
good luck to everyone :)!
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Yep, good luck to all!
Can't help but feel that the amount of animations is lower than I expected though...
The toon challenge was a perfect opportunity to make one, as toon frames can be rendered very quickly.

Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
I have something special planned, but my announcement will come after the GrabCAD/Keyshot official announcement. Also, I’ll be compressing this months challenge into a 3-or-so minute video (call it a glorified, visual overview), and will dedicate a blog post for deeper analysis of the entries from my perspective & the hard numbers; It’s long list, but distinguished.
…
Until then
….
You’ll be twiddlin’ your thumbs until August 1st :)
Best of luck fellow GrabCAD'rs!!

Abed Sabeh about 12 years ago
Martin, you made me laugh.....patience!
Those challenges are really fun and keeps me motivated :-) Good luck everyone!!
William about 12 years ago
You should all ready be a subscriber of 3D Develop magazine Martin. It is free so there is no excuse LoL'ss and a world of very intresting knowladge from month to month right in your in box
William about 12 years ago
Well guys the keyshot Toon render comp is over and big congrats to all for your outstanding work. I hope this new toon material will be showing up a lot more with your models on GrabCAD as there is still plenty more experimenting to be done with this awesome new material from Keyshot..... Good luck to all :P
Arian Shamil about 12 years ago
Good luck to everyone! in these last days i've seen a lot of great project! There are really a lot of good (maybe is better to say: Great) designers :D
It was a pleasure to partecipate to this challange and to know some new nice guy that give to me some advices...I've learned something doing this challange and so thanks to all of you to have inspired me and in some case to have give to me advices on my works! Thanks again to all! Grabcad and grabcad users rocks! sorry for my bad english...:D
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
@ Martin , " at times amusing" , you're kidding us again? it's ALL THE TIME! everyone here is a winner! even those who didn't participate and soaking up wealth of resources, knowledge and making some friends along the way. I went to subscribe to 3D Developed Mag. unfortunately it's not free for me. Went and subscribed anyways, see if at least I can get the digital version in pdf. - The last time I ordered Automotive Engineering from UK, it came all beat up in the mail. and there's news about the USPS, our postal service may stop delivering to our door steps. I guess everyone will in the future(now) do no more snail mail but Ipad and e-mail and everything else. This competition had been quite exciting, it's my very first entry and will definitely not be my last (encouragement from william). yet, I'm a young jedi GrabCad'r, not even 1 month since I stumbled on Grabcad. "i'll be back"..Will look forward in seeing familiar names again..until then wish you all a healthy hand, left or right. stretch those fingers and thumbs. Hope some of you will drop by my page and have a chit-chat. don't be a stranger. :D
Arian Shamil about 12 years ago
I never heard before of 3d developed Mag....what is it?
Arian Shamil about 12 years ago
Martin...thanks like always!!!!! :)
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Wow.. nice. It has Jobs too =) I applied for TomTom & Dyson before but unsuccessful :p
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
ENTRANTS: Be sure to follow the requirement for your rendering and/or animation entry.
...
Just re-posting here what's stated above for a kind reminder, please check your project settings so not to be disqualified in this challenge...
...
...
Requirements:
...
Create a captivating 3D rendering or animation of a 3D model utilizing the TOON SHADER MATERIAL.
...
Entry description MUST INCLUDE:
- Link to original model from GrabCAD.
- Name of original author of CAD files.
- Methods and tools used for animation or rendering.
...
All animations must be added as a video URL link in the settings of your submission.
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Many entries are missing an "author" link and relation to GrabCAD model/s.
Don't miss out because of the technical details :)
...
Best of luck!
Ramin Asgary about 12 years ago
@Tommy Mueller : I did the 3D modeling myself, Do I have to upload that 3D model file?
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Totally so @ramin & @all... we need to have links to GrabCAD models for the entries. Just upload it to your public profile and link to your Keyshot challenge project.
...
I'm making comments on many of "our" entries, looking out for you guys/gals who have slaved hours into this competition. It's hard for me to disqualify anybody from a chance to win, but the rules are rules. Definitely re-read this project page if you're unsure :)
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Uhm, I uploaded the whole shebang (270MB SolidWorks 2013 model) to my entry project: http://grabcad.com/library/wheel-of-the-misfortunates-animation-1/files
Will that suffice?
Dries
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Right on Dries, thanks for following up on that. It's important for everyone to double check your project page for the technicals.
...
Also, I must have posted over 50 comments of these Keyshot entries reminding everybody to link the Author or GrabCAD 3D file. You'll know who you are :D
...
It's my, "No GrabCAD'r left behind" policy.
Thanks in advance!
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
So... I'm good with just having it on my entry page? :-)
Would rather not upload it again (it takes +1 hour with my measly upload bandwidth...).
Dries
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
You're good @dries, I can see the files are there in the project page. Just edit your text to inform others that all the 3D files used in the challenge are available on that project page.
...
No need to create any other upload
Thanks!
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
All set and done ;-)
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
:)
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Just a quick observation...
"Winners will be announced latest Monday August 1st, 2013."
Is it Monday... or August 1st? :-)
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago

Trees trees trees, lines lines lines .... LOL
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
hmmm... since the challenge is over. Anyone interested in rendering my Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Star Blazer) video in 1080HD. WARNING ~ it will take days on a Macbook 2012.
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Tooned. My current one is 720p, stitched from part 1080p and part 720p using 2 different computers (can see different color).
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Same here =( I am now using my comp rushing for GE and Kyron's power chair challenges. After that the plug challenge and redesign a 3D printer ^_^
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Still got 24hrs, not 24min :p Then we see 2nd wave of Tsunami. Massive comments and delete of projects...LOL
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Today is 31st July. Latest is 1st August (tomorrow) 2359hrs Boston Time...LOL
Leo Kiviluoma about 12 years ago
Because I like Pocket Watches I call it Greenwich time. If You want to play with exact global time then Paul Allen's and Steven Job's friend to an friend evaluated UCT. Nothing wrong with UCT. But I think the best time would be how many milliseconds from the big band nearly 14,3 mrd years ago.
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
In the Contest Guidelines on the KeyShot forum:
"Announcement:
The winner will be announced August 1st, 2013 via the GrabCAD and KeyShot websites."

Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Seems like with every passing day, there's an entry being withdrawn. LOL
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Martin, I get a strong feeling you look like a Hobbit, whilst gardening...
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin Don't dig my wound, Hobbit...LOL
William about 12 years ago
Your a Womble, Marting>? //Hono LoL'ss
William about 12 years ago
Opsss Marting = Martin :P
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
Actually we should be looking at Keyshot website for news release etc. They are the sponsor, so likely they announce first =)
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Darn, my countdown timer was wrong... :-)
William about 12 years ago
Would that not mean you are one then Martin? LoL'ss
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin You should really try Steampunk using Keyshot. It's really cool...LOL
Tan Wei Kok about 12 years ago
@Martin We just have to go through the learning process, just like we did in this one =) My first 30 days in Keyshot and I can teach interns in a friend's company how to use Toon function this afternoon. Challenge forced us to learn new things. It is way better than any prize we get. Knowledge is power =)
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
That was Spider-Man's uncle...
Arief Nur Hidayat about 12 years ago

Mike Wiggins about 12 years ago
Oh I'm not going anywhere - just gearing up for next go-round! 15 days isn't nearly enough to grasp all the capabilities of any rendering program so hopefully i can find a way to acquire my own seat for some more practice between now and the next competition! I've got a few more things in the pipeline in the meantime tho ;)
Dries Vervoort about 12 years ago
Wow! This was really a FUN challenge!
There were a lot of unique applications and creative uses of the Toon material. i'm sure the judges had a tough time deciding on the winner.
Thanks again! ;-)
Dries
Tom Fred about 12 years ago

Congrats to all Winners and same goes for all participants. Everyone puts in much efforts & we've all became friends and gotten to known of each other a bit closer. I suppose we non-winners. aka "losers" lol will not be participating in the future events, since we no longer have a working trial Keyshot, good for only 8 more days. Thanks to all the sponsors and judges. going back to earn my +5 points. :D
Tommy Mueller about 12 years ago
Sincere congrats to everybody; participants and winners; probably one of the coolest challenges I've seen.... thus far... future GrabCAD/Ferrari challenges anybody?
You're all pretty awesome; and again, a super great job overall.
Great comments, great efforts, great results all around!
Can’t wait for the next go-around!
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
next challenge should be a match-up. . everyone grab a partners and "duel" . I'm gonna team up with Tommy, I think he got all modeled Ferraris, all set to vroom vroom.
HUGH GOH about 12 years ago
I believe the prize would be a Lamborghini instead of a Ferrari, runner ups gets a Bugatti.
leon teoh about 12 years ago
