Iges files come in as surfaces in many cases and it will indicate the mass as 0 because surfaces have no mass. Step files will come in as solids, but will come in as a default material rather than the material you want. Here are a couple things you can do.

For the step file:

1. Save it as an ipt file once you open the step file.
2. Open the newly saved ipt file.
3. Change the material up in the top material menus to what you need it to be.
4. Then you can check the physical properties and they should be accurate.

For iges file.

1. Save it as an ipt file.
2. Open the newly saved ipt file.
3. If it comes in as a surface, use the sculpt command to make it a solid body.
4. Change the material up in the top material menus to what you need it to be.
5. Then you can check the physical properties and they should be accurate.

If you have trouble, post the file here and I can take a look at it.
