3D Printshow Challenge

Design an ingenious household object designed for 3D printing for the 2013 3D Printshow in London!

Challenge yourself to take an everyday household product you would find in the kitchen, living room or bedroom and rework it for 3D printing. Focus on making your design unique and functional.

Expand your mind and try to redesign something that you wouldn't normally think to 3D print. There is more to the house than vases and lamps! Step out of your comfort zone and create fresh, functional products that would surprise and delight anyone who takes pride in a well-designed home.

Winners will be announced and showcased at 3D Printshow, November 7th in London.

Requirements

  • You must include:
    - STEP or IGES version
    - STL version optimized for 3D printing
    - Rendering of your design

  • You are encouraged to include:
    - Native CAD file format
    - Why your design is unique and functional
    - How you rethought things for 3D printing
    - Any additional renderings

  • The winning design will be:
    - 3D printable
    - Unique, distinguished design
    - A household object

Update from the 3D Printshow team:
    1) Are there any size or material constraints?
No. A scaled miniature will be printed if the model is too big to produce.
    2) Are models with multiple parts allowed? Is one part preferred?
Multiple parts will be considered. However, one part is preferred for ease of printing.
    3) Are flights included in the prize?
Flights will not be included. However, you can see that you have your choice of location for some prizes.
    4) What does the VIP pass include?
Check out VIP details here: http://3dprintshow.com/london2013/tickets/vip-session-access/

@Doug Winning designs will be announced and promoted at the event. This means they'll be on display, not that all companies at the event have the right to reproduce them. @Fahad You're correct they will print and display them at the show.

@Sarah I do not understand .... if we are doing the work let onyone produce the items if they want. Does not matter who wins. More publicity for you guys and for us who do most of the work. Hell .... maybe a company will want one of us to do work for them.

@ Fahad I am sorry to say this but once you post your design, all you may try to claim for the initialization IP rights. I say try, because you will not only have a big legal fee to pay but I think you will find that the designs here are by the nature of the site public. That does not take away the great potential of putting up design here.

Sorry if this sounds rude but if you're concerned about IP, don't upload models to this site. By uploading your designs/models you have void any basic protection under design rights unless you chose to copyright or patent your design before uploading.

By uploading on here you're not only allowing people to see your unprotected design, but also showing them how it's made by allowing people to download the model.

I would suggest you either don't upload designs to this site or you seek appropriate protection before uploading.

I'm happy to upload on here because I do it for the challenges in the hope of winning and with no plans to take my design to market myself
