Tutorial - Tip - insert a reference image into a sketch in SolidWorks

I will show you how to insert a reference image into a sketch. You can do this in more then one sketch for a project and on more then one plane. When the image is no longer needed, just change the visibility of the sketch the image is in For this tutorial, I will be using an image of a vase to reference in creating a model of a similar vase.

Single Inspection Dimension for Holes

Dimensioning / Tolerancing

I was having a hard time figuring out a good way to dimension a hole with both the diameter and depth of a hole with GD&T in a singe dimension. This dimension also required inspection so I wanted the inspection circle around the dimension and have the properties linked to the model. I did a lot of searching on the internet and did not find a good solution. Here is my solution. please leave your comments if you have a better way to do this.

How to upload files to GrabCAD Workbench?

Here is how I created a new Workbench project and a few different ways I uploaded SolidWorks files. This is was also my first time using the upload folders option so I came across a few bugs that I am sure will be worked out but they are not a big deal. Please feel free to leave comments if this worked for you or if you have a different or better way to do it. I will tell you how to start your Workbench project and upload SolidWorks files. I am assuming you know how to create your files. For this tutorial, I will upload a .zip file containing all of the part and assembly files. You can make this many ways but one of the best ways is to use the Pack-and-Go option in SW. Many other CAD programs have a similar option and this makes sure all the required files are included.

I just did an extruded cut. I think this is what you were asking for.

I found the easiest way to do this was to use the revolve cut feature rather than the loft cut. Here is video to show you what I did and some screen shots.

Tutorial - Tip - fully defining sketches in SolidWorks (splines)
Stephen Nyberg

Beginner
There is a built-in feature in SolidWorks that will fully define your sketch for you. While this is not always the best tool to use as it can make your dimensions and relations of your sketch complicated. In turn making it hard to change or modify things down the road. It can be a powerful tool if this is not important or for defining splines or other complex geometry.

Tutorial: Torus Möbius

Here are the steps I did to make this model. Start by opening a new sketch. I made my part in mm, As the name suggests, this shape is just a torus cut in half with a möbius (still a single solid body) It can be helpful to rename your sketches and features to make them easier to select down the line. If you do not know how to do this look here; http://grabcad.com/questions/tutorial-tips-keeping-your-freature-tree-clean-and-organized-in-solidworks

The AR is a bit more complex than is needed for this tutorial so I skipped a few steps that I did to prepare the model. I used http://grabcad.com/library/mil-spec-ar-15-lower by http://grabcad.com/toddaho and imported the .ipt file into SolidWorks.

Tutorial - Tips - keeping your freature tree clean and organized in SolidWorks.

Here are a few simple steps that I use to make my feature tree easy to navigate. This is not only beneficial to me if I want to go back and change my model down the road, but also for others who may need to edit my file. A clean and organized feature tree will save time in the long run and does not take much time on the front end. For this tutorial, the model I used is of my Grabby and the sldprt file can be found here: http://grabcad.com/library/grabby-2-wip/files/Grabby%202.SLDPRT The project is: http://grabcad.com/library/tutorial-tips-on-keeping-your-freature-tree-clean-and-organized-in-solidworks-1
