Thor Hammer is a fictional weapon appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is depicted as the major weapon of the superhero Thor. Mjolnir, which first appears in Journey in Mystery # 83 (August 1962), was created by writer Stan Lee and was designed by artists Jack Kirby and Joe Sinot. The Thor Hammer was typically depicted as a large, square-headed gray sledgehammer. It is a small, round handle wrapped in brown leather, ending in a looped lanyard. The object is based on the legendary Thor's weapon, Mjölnir. The head may be made of steel, iron, or other heavy metals, and is often coated with paint or rust-resistant materials to protect it from wear and tear. The long handle of the sledgehammer is made of wood or a composite material, and it is designed to provide leverage and absorb shock when striking hard surfaces. The handle may have a rubber or plastic grip to help prevent slipping during use. Sledgehammers are often used in pairs with one person holding the chisel or other tool while the other strikes it with the sledgehammer.
