Step 5 really through me for a loop, but I figured it out after about 20 minutes. I'm not sure what Aykut is saying about "show" in the feature tree but i couldnt make it work.
Here's what I found that works for me, hope it helps others out. Thanks again Aykut for making this learning experience possible!!
Step 1
Select extruded boss/base, under direction 1 select "up to surface" and pick the bottom surface of the oil pan. Now click on "selected contours" and select the 8 pillars to extrude.
Step 2
Again, select extruded boss/base, under direction 1 select "up to surface" and pick the deeper bottom surface of the oil pan. Now click on "selected contours" and select the 6 pillars to extrude.
These instructions are OK instructions. However, the details are something to be improved upon. Either you are going to have to read into these plans or make a lot of your own conclusions on this engine design. Better than nothing, but would like the originals with all the dimensions.
While I'm very grateful for such an elaborate tutorial, it really is disappointing to get to a certain point and realize that some very crucial dimensions were left out such as in step 3. :(
